I loved Professor Gosse as a person, he is FAIR, and gives pop quizes that are designed to help students who care - just do them. Found his lectures interesting for the most part. The math was sooo easy, any student could do it. The midterms and final have bonus questions - do them for the extra leg up. Just give it 100% and you'll get the A+ easy!

Nice man, but very unclear with teachings, speaks as if the students already know all this science stuff when it is a first year course. Heavy math and science, which is expected but forsure not clearly taught. Would recommend getting your science credit else where.

My first earth science class ever (Im a Kine student), I liked the subject and studied for exams, got an A+ without stupid effort. You HAVE to attend classes or will miss half the material (slides are dry). Prof. Gosse is great and passionate. Loved Charles Walls, he's super nice, will help you with assign no problem! Some Physics backgr may help!

Great prof. The material was a bit dry, but he managed to make it interesting as could be at 8:30am. Especially enjoyed the Beer Foam Challenge, wish we could have participated though haha.

Comment:

I really do love Professor Gosse as a person, he is kind and fair, and always replied to my e-mails when I had questions. However, I found his lectures incredibly boring and uninteresting, but that might be because I'm not majoring in Earth Sciences or Geology. The midterms and final are hard, even if you go to class and memorize the slides.

A professor who knows how to teach really well. His slides are concise and good to study off of. Textbooks don't feel like it is a necessity, but it is a great tool to study off of. Lectures can be dry, but very clear and easy to understand.

John Gosse is an excellent prof, he makes you want to learn and the material interesting. Homework for this class was a joke. Gives pop quizzes but you get 75% for writing your name. Expect around 40% of the midterm and exam questions to be either directly off previous (practice) exams or a variation of. Go to class, study the slides, get an A+.

Interesting and very knowledgable prof. Made the material stimulating. Material was harder than I thought (natural disasters) however, teaching assistants readily available. Recommend this course.

An amazing prof! Knows what he's talking about and has really cool examples from places he's been. Uses pictures of his own expeditions! Extremely willing to help out in any way. Surprise pop quizzes every once in a while, but just by putting your name on the sheet you automatically get a 75!! I RECOMMEND TO EVERYONE!

Awesome Prof!!! So many great things to say about John, so little room. It is not often that you come across profs that really care about students (especially with his large classes), and who gets excited about things and will think nothing of taking time to sit down with you and help you figure out where you need to be. Amazing, Amazing.

Comment:

Good prof, but the class is way too easy for Science students. Other then the scales (which you need to memorize), everything in this class is common sense. Charlie Walls had to teach about a quarter of the term though, due to Gosse having to leave constantly for one reason or another.

John is an awesome lecturer. This guy dumbs EVERYTHING down for the Arts students. It was easier than my Grade 10 Geog course. The midterms were easy, the class was stupid. I don't understand how the averages were only 60. Charlies Walls was a rock solid backup.

took some weeks off and had another guy teach who really screwed some of us on hydrographs etc... wish that gosse would stick aorund to teach a full semester or just not take on a class. definitely NOT a bird class, it's easy subject matter but the class avg's were low... 68 and 60 on the two midterms... midterms were kinda hard..
