Comment:
Griffin is a good lecturer but you have to do the reading ahead of time if this is your first course in neurobiology. Otherwise you'll show up to lecture and feel like he's speaking another language. 1st exam is really detail oriented so make sure you know all of the areas of the brain as well as their functions (which you may not learn in class.)

Great class! Follows textbook very closely. Prof Griffin is very enthusiastic and engaging and really knows his stuff. He makes himself very available to his students and is very helpful when students come to him. Important to come to class for clickers and explanations of slides, although you could probably get by studying the book a lot

He works hard to keep the class engaging and fun, but he definitely challenges you as well - as long as you keep up with the material and ask questions when you need to, you'll do great in this class.

Had him for neurobio too and loved his lectures. Still do. The material is interesting and he keeps in up-beat and engaging. Was looking forward to the lab but didn't end up liking it because of his vague directions, hard grading, and unwillingness to help with the software. He'd be better if he just stuck with lecturing.

Interesting and nice guy! Used clickers in class which made the lecture setting more interactive. Tests were more specific than not, but fair and do-able. Class was a little boring at times, very similar to PSYC313. Textbook reinforced lectures, which he posted before each class. Makes himself very accessible to students. Would recommend.

Great professor. Easy class. Go to class and do the reading and you'll do well. Lectures mirror assigned readings. There are a few random questions on each test but for the most part the exams are reasonable and you can do well with minimal work.

Griffin is a great professor, very clear and follows his lectures fairly closely. Going to class is still important though, since he sometimes has random questions on exams that you need to be in class to be able to answer. Overall he is an excellent professor.

Griffin is a very creative teacher. He engages students through CPS clicker questions during class, discussion boards on blackboard, student-created lab experiments, and simple powerpoints. His classes are anything but dull and the information you learn will stick. He's most definitely the coolest and most approachable bio professor out there.

A teacher who loves what he's doing. Be consistent with the reading and the A shouldn't be too hard to get.

I'm a bio major and not terribly interested in the brain, but this class was worth it. He sometimes rushes through the material, but you can definitely go back and figure it out. If you study for the exams you're almost guaranteed to do well. He's a nice guy and cracks a lot of jokes. Take this class if you're interested; it's a good choice.

made a lot of comments about how the class seemed asleep, but not much effort to be engaging or fun. One thing he def wants you to learn is that he hits up the Leafe for $ beer night. This class could be much more interesting. also if you've taken more advanced classes, you'll realize he oversimplifies concepts to the point that they're incorrect

Neurophysio. is almost exactly the same as Neurobio. Dr. Griffin is an adequate teacher although he talks too much about his own research and does not have much time for his students.

One of the best teachers I've had at W&M. Clear, organized, fair tests and lecture materials. The book is worth buying. Even though the first test is extremely challenging (in terms of amt. of material) you learn a lot. Take this class.

Griffin is a decent professor but talks about his research too much and is very confusing at times. Read the book and focus on the material and you should be ok. Don't be fooled by the easiness of the first exam the second is killer.
