If you don't like science don't take this class! His lectures are full of interesting information, he is very well organized and expects your notes to be the same. Your notes are your grade as thats what you study for exams. He is an easy grader on labs, take the labeling seriously! Easy A if you follow instructions study your notes and labs!

You need to have a lot of patience in order to take this class. Notes are unorganized so you will most likely have to rewrite them. When you ask for help or clarification he doesnt give you and answer. Very confusing at times. He does give a study guide for the exams. Doesnt upload grades online.

Things that will be on the exam can sometimes be less than clear but for the most part a large chunk of the class is based on the lectures, lab (if you take the class + lab combo) and partially the book. He goes out of his way to help you understand and score well.

Comment:

He is really the best professor I have ever had. He is genuinely caring, smart, humble, rational, fair and most of all, a humane individual who is very competent of teaching Zoology. Most university professors cannot be compared to Moss. What makes him great rather than just good is that his benevolence and passion will interest you in the subject.

Moss is a great professor. He's clearly very interested in his subject and he's always available to help. There are quizzes and activities every day that count toward your grade, so you do need to show up. Most of the test material comes from the lectures but he WILL throw in occasional questions from the textbook.

He is straight forward and easy to understand. There is genuine feeling that he wants you to understand not the only material, but also spark an interest in science. Attendance, doing the labs, and taking notes are the most important key. The better you listening and take notes the better you'll do on the quizzes, tests, and midterm/final.

Professor Moss is really amazing. He really cares about his students and want them to suceed. There are 2 test and 1 final. He drops the lowest test. About 10 quizzes or so. 1 quiz per week. Make sure you copy down all of the things he writes down on the board because majority of the questions asked on final and midterm are from his notes!

Really laid back class, super clear in what he wants you to know, and he has a genuine interest in what he's teaching. Material is straight forward and if you have any in it he'll hang around and just talk about some really cool things unrelated to the actual coursework.

Dr. Moss is a great respectful guy. This is a lab class so there is ALOT to memorize for the tests. it is not a hard class but it is time consuming. You wont be needing the book since he writes everything on the board. . take notes . stay organize .and study you could get an A

Best teacher ever! he's a real cool guy, writes everything you need to know on the board. theres a quiz every week but they are fairly simple. This class was Very easy because it was so straight forward. So If you want an easy A take Moss!

Great teacher, passionate about teaching this subject!! 2 mid-terms and one final. Can drop one mid-term exam. Quizzes every other week, fairly easy. No textbook required, and he writes his notes all on the board. Very organized and tries to help students. LOTS to memorize, no kidding. But his tests are VERY fair, straight from the notes.

Prof. Moss was awesome. Theres 2 exams and the final. He drops one exam so if ur happy with the 1st u dont have to take the 2nd. Lots of extra credit on them too. Gives a study guide. No homework! Study for quiz's at beginning of class, based on previous day's lectures. Notes given are crystal clear. He clearly loves the subject.

Comment:

I am surprised by the people who did not like this class. Dr. Moss is one of the best teachers at SMC! If you are not interested in Bio then this is not the class for you, b/c no matter who is teaching it, you will not like it. Bio classes are hard, but Dr. Moss makes it much easier. Tests are very fair, no trick questions, which is rare in Bio.

He is an old guy with good intentions. He has a quiz almost every class. His lectures are boring. Only 3 tests and can drop one. Only take the class if you have an interest in marine bio. Will make you draw a lot! Also, you will get your hands dirty dissecting things like squid.

did NOT like. plays favorites. i studied really hard and knew all answers on test and got zero credit for listing 7 characteristics of something when question asks for 5. he says "I'm not the one being graded". got cheated on every test. gives a study guide and then he tests on material not on it.. GPA killer. don't waste your time..

Dr. Moss is a very sweet and caring old man.I took him for the summer session and surprisingly I passed. He is very serious about attendance and gettin to class on time but he is also very understanding to the fact that biology isnt for everyone I guarantee u I wouldnt have passed had it not been for him. Take him he is great!
