He is way too "laid back". You never know how you are doing in class. He doesn't do anything cutting edge. I knew more at local college than what he teaches. How does he expect anyone to move forward towards a career if nothing is ever critiqued or tells you how you can improve? I can't wait until I don't have to have him as a teacher.

O'Connor is the man. He will not baby you. Show up to class and work. Ask questions. He will always give you detailed feedback when you ask for it. Take the time to talk personal life with him and you will build a great relationship. You're going to have him until you graduate so make an impression now.

Good man with critique when asked. Has a LOT of time-consuming tutorials to do for classwork ranging from how to plug in numbers for effects to using basic tools you probably know at this point- that gets in the way of your main assignments that's due on a weekly basis with quizzes. Make sure to do it ahead of time if you can instead of cramming.

Good luck if you're in the GD program at RU. By now you are probably aware of O'Connor's habits. He doesn't give grades until the end so you have no idea how you're doing. Projects are more about quantity than quality. He didn't teach the basics until the end of class... if you even count using tutorials from 2007 as teaching. Skip it if you can.

O'Connor is definitely the best professor I've ever had. His classes will greatly prepare you for the graphic design world, and he offers a lot of help. His classes are hard due to how many assignments are given, but it is very representative of the real graphic design world, plus you learn more as you work more. By all means, take his class.

O'Connor is the man...Restored my interest in graphic design after Spoon nearly destroyed it. Always fun class sessions, but it's imperative that you go. Probably the best teacher I've had at Radford. Always willing to help and keeps class interesting. Weekly quizzes are for your own good if youre making a career out of design. Take him.
