John is okay. He makes some controversial comments every once and awhile but he can greatly help you solve issues with projects. However, if theres a mistake you dont fix for presentation he WILL call you out on it. Read the textbooks too. None of my class did and it was dumb. Everything you need is in it. Also learn AutoCAD ahead of time!

He is very knowledgable with building science and often have real-life project and experiences to share. I enjoy his lectures but it is true that he makes a lot of jokes mid-way and may get carried away. However, I believe his lectures are well thought out. You don't have to buy his textbook, but it is informative, especially for the assignments.

Didn't get our midterm till last 2 weeks before exams, didn't get our final back till 2017, and changes the course % breakdown on the last day of the term (5% bridge component was removed for some reason). Class was very poorly managed and prof should have done a better job.

He covered a lot of really interesting building concepts; stuff like calculations for heat flow in/out of buildings, the optimum orientation of buildings tor maximum solar gain in the winter while minimizing it during the summer. Good prof who will teach you so you learn something useful by the course's end.

Awesome material. Great guy, not to focused on his teaching though. Tells good stories, but skims over key/complicated material. Obviously an entertainer, and likes to teach, his enthusiasm is refreshing. However, he can get carried away, often making unintentionally offensive comments which have turned many students off the material.

Easily the the funniest prof yet. Hands down. Start a journal at the beginning of term to fill with quotes, because as time goes on, he throws in jokes and wordplay continually. "Wood? I mean, why not? [use it] I mean ... .it grows on trees!&

Only redeeming moment was when Frank let me break a frozen orange in the Charpy impact testing machine. Lectures had the coherence of a hobo on speed, interrupted only by sporadic attempts from people wishing to kiss ass. Sleep in.
