Comment:
The material is not hard to grasp, what makes this class so difficult is the way she grades her tests. Her grading is unreasonably hard, unless you have the exact response she wants on her essays she is taking a unreasonable of credit off. This is a class that everyone takes just for credit, there is no reason her class should be this difficult.

Comment:
Kathleen Brown is unreasonably hard for the classes she is teaching. Cultural foundations classes should not require you to have the diligence that Brown requires of you. Brown take a ridiculous amount of time to get test grades back to you, and her feedback is normally unhelpful... Her office is a complete mess and she is a soft speaker. AVOID HER

I really enjoy Dr. Brown as a person, however she is a hard professor to "like". She's extremely unorganized, so it's hard to get a grasp on what is due and when. She's a rambler, which can be both good and bad. She assigns a significant amount of reading and it is often dry and tedious. She's really helpful, but definitely not an easy A.

Dr. Brown is great and is willing to help if you're willing to put in the effort. She is super sweet. In order to do well in her class you have to read, and while she does take attendance her lectures are just what you read in the textbook.

I feel like Dr. Brown gets a bad wrap because people don't feel like doing the work. She is always willing to help and flat out gives you what will be on the test. I barely took notes, did not read the book (2329), and got an A in both classes I took with her at the same time. It is doable just don't give up. She does take a while to grade though.

Very very intelligent teacher. Also very hard class. This class with this teacher isn't for the faint-hearted. Good luck.

Had her for Rise of Modern America. She's a very nice lady and she is also very very nice. Pure Lecture though in class and she goes very fast through power points. Readings MUST be done! Tests are very hard!!! Pure writing and she uses Political Cartoons often! Take the class if you can handle the C in the class!

I have taken 27 classes at this university and Dr. Brown is by far the worst professor I have yet to encounter. She does not care about students at all, I had to correct her on my name till the last week of school. It took her a whole month to turn back exams, in which it is impossible to get a good grade. Avoid at all costs.

Her class is a supplement to the book so reading is a MUST. Her tests are VERY difficult, and she grades harshly. She is not helpful and is hard to contact. My advice avoid taking her.

This course is ridiculous when there are other prof that offer this course and the work load is much more reasonable. The study guide for the first midterm is given from day one.. to ace this you must have 3 well prepared essays and 70-80 vocab terms defined who what where when significance and how it is connected w/other terms... expect a B no A

I found these things to be accurate: study guides were ridiculously large, tests are 100% essay, fairly tough grader, liberal, feminist, could very possibly hate America. However, if you want to learn about History, take the class. Your GPA may take a hit if you don't apply yourself.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! I had a 4.0 before her class. Her exam reviews are crazy (example: 80 terms to define but she only picks 8 of those terms for the exam and you only have to answer 4 and it is nit open book/notes)! She is also an extremely tough grader and does not curve. I ended up with a B in the class and I had one of the highest averages!

Extremely difficult class, but an excellent professor nonetheless. Lectures often lead to debates and you're either going to love Professor Brown or hate her. Try to be open-minded and you'll learn a lot from her.

If you have ever been curious to meet a true feminist, someone who absolutely hates everything about America or could be Hugo Chavez's long lost twin sister then Brown is the professor for you. She could be the most liberal professor at St. Ed's. Her classes are extremely boring, her powerpoints bland and her tests are ridiculously hard. Avoid her

Tests and lecture taken almost directly from the books. Very liberal minded prof who might butt heads with more conservative class members. I barely studied for tests but attended class and pulled solid Bs. Interesting subject and assignments were interesting and relative to class.

This class was pretty cool. It was a small lecture type class. Unlike her other lower classes, there were only 2 powerpoints the either semester. only had to write 3 5 page papers plus midterm and final. that was all. the subject wasn't over interesting but it was a thought provoking subject. I recommend this class. 2 required books, very cheap.

Very difficult class for one required of all students. The tests were ridiculously hard. She's a really sweet woman, and she's always willing to help out when you swing by her office, but chances are this class will pull down your GPA.

I was wary of Prof Brown but she has proved me wrong! The class isn't hard-just don't space out while taking notes-she goes fast. There were 8 papers to write but theyre only 2-3pgs. And 3 tests, including the final. It was a pretty breezy class.

Don't take Dr. Brown for lower level classes like CULF or Intro to History. You'll end up way over your head and she grades like a beast on papers. If you're a history major though and used to higher level course work she can be interesting. You're GPA will take a hit because she grades hard, but the material you learn is worth it.
