Dr. Berven is a great instructor, is very nice, and is very laid back. You are split into groups of 4 and you will work with this group on a presentation pertaining to the overall research paper. The paper is very low-stress since Dr. Berven breaks it up into pieces and he tells you how he wants you to write it.

Professor Berven is my favorite professor at OU! He cares so much about what he's teaching and teaches it in a way that you understand. There's a lot of material but the weekly quizzes help keep you ontop of all of it. He's generous on grading but you do need to study a lot and put in effort to earn your grade. Overall he's just amazing!

Dr. Berven is my favorite professor at OU. He is the sweetest man and genuinely wants all of his students to succeed. He knows the material he teaches inside and out. The lecture is mainly on slides, but make sure you attend class because he does not read directly off the slides, and always lets you know what you'll need to know. He's the best!

Dr. Berven is my favorite professor at Oakland. He is very caring and if you put the effort in you will do exceptionally well. His class is based on his current research with wood frogs. His BIO 495 class is organized and you only have 1 paper due at the end of the semester, you get the entire semester to write it. Take him, its worth it!

I absolutely adore Berven and was excited for this class, but it kicked my ass. material is interesting, but difficult, so be ready to study. tests are applications of your knowledge, not just clear-cut definitions and such. weekly quizzes and make sure to take lots of pics in lab. keep up with lecture and review all material often.

Dr. Berven is a very kind professor. However, DO NOT take this class with any other difficult classes. Exams are extremely difficult. Quizzes every week. Must continuously study for this class. If you don't have an interest in vertebrates stay away! This class is harder than my 400 level biology classes. Look at grade distribution many people fail!

I love all his classes, tests can be very challenging but if you are interested in the topics it will be thoroughly enjoyable! This is coming from someone who is not a 4.0 student by all means. I did not ace any of his classes but I was satisfied with my grades because for the amount of studying I did I think I did fairly well.

Berven is sincerely one of the nicest professors I have had. However, powerpoints are disorganized and tests are incredibly challenging. Very approachable in office hours. Take photos of dissections in lab and record lectures. Material not on the powerpoint but included in the lecture is fair game for test material. So nice, but very tough!

I love Berven! He made the class enjoyable and easy to keep up with. I thought it would be a breeze, but you learn things you will need in science. I learned from students with different profs that their course work was ridiculous and daunting. Berven's course was balanced and interesting. One of my favorite science profs at OU!

Great prof. really cares about student success. Very tough class, lots of info. One quiz per week, but posts all study guides on moodle. Book was not used only power point. Very intelligent Prof. and knows his subject. I really loved this class and learned amazing things! Study, study, study and you will do well.

Great professor; huge amount of information, but standard for summer course. Do Connect material; 60% of it is on tests. Other 40% is straight-forward and honest. Learning huge amount of material is very hard, but class is not.

GREAT Professor! Cared that his students did well and introduced us to a lot of real life examples of what we were studying, which was really helpful. He honestly was the best professor that I have ever had, was always there when I needed help with something. Wish I could take him again. You got to study for the tests and quizes.

One quiz a week, and the tests are based squarly off of the power points. He is nice, is willing to explain things until yo understand it, and you can argue your point and regain points on tests. Overall, I really liked this prof. I definitely recommend him. Just make sure you study.

I took the online course with him, and earned a decent grade. The book will be somewhat useful, but his test questions came mostly from the online question bank in the book. Lot of ridiculous assignments for no purposes, and unbelievable degree of expectation for learning (c'mon, it's an intro course). 5 extra credit points for 3 exams(!?).

AMAZING professor. He posts every pp on moodle and made study guides for us for all his exams and posted old exmas to look at. Exams were easy, he took them from the practice exam and questions at the end of the chapters in the book. great guy, went to his office for help once and he was really helpful, answering all my questions clearly. take him!

Very intelligent man, however not suited for teaching. He has no personality, never spoke when entering the class, he just simply started his lecture. Though that may be his style, it made it very difficult to get interested in what he was saying. I learned NOTHING from his class.

He was helpful outside of the classroom, for sure, but his tests almost never left off "insanely hard multiple choice" style. If you aren't good at tricky multiple choice, then don't waste your time like I did. This class won't reflect what you know, it'll just trip you up and mess up your overall average. I hated it. Boring as heck, too.
