Comment:
Class is based around 4 tests, with a 5th optional one. There are two total questions on the tests. Decent amount of partial credit given - in general. Lectures are verbatim reading of slides - he is useless as an explainer. For the most part, the exam questions are original and unlike ones from the homework, so make sure you know your stuff.

Dr. Chow really cares that his students understand the material during lecture. He goes pretty slow so everyone can understand, which results in boring lectures. His tests are challenging but fair. You get full credit for homework just for turning it in, which is 25% of the grade. Make up test for those who need it.

There were 4 tests and 1 makeup, but try your best to get good grades on the first 4 tests b/c the makeup is more difficult than the rest. Dr. Chow gets like 80% of his test questions from the FE section in the back of chapters, use that for practice. Don't rely on lectures in class, your best bet is to teach yourself by reading the textbook.

Teacher just read from the book.. no examples.. he is good at relating the material to real life engineering but sucks in teaching for what we are tested on.

Lectures are horrible and add very little to the textbook material, so it isn't really worth going to class. But I thought that the worst part was that he didn't give any exam review material. He made one for Exam 1, and it had 3 questions, one of which was conceptual.

Comment:
Lectures are awful; there was no structure to his lecturing at all. Never gave enough time for the exams because his TA made them with none of his input, averages were around 50%. He gives 10% EC up front through Connect, and so far has denied any curves, though a majority of the class is failing.

Comment:
lectures are terrible. He walks up with papers he printed out of a text book and reads them to us, blamed students for terrible test averages, below 60%. has 5 tests but only uses the highest 4 but its not like he give enough time for the tests that are given because the TA makes them. Uses connect for homework and gives 10% extra credit

Dr. Chow is by far one of the worst professors I've had at UCF. His powerpoints are random pages from the textbook, his tests are made by the TA's who test students on topics never seen in class. Everyone is failing and his help is giving an optional Test 5 that will be harder than any other test we've taken even tho the avgs for test r below 60%

Awful. Unorganized and poor lectures. Does not show you how to solve problems. Homework are unrelated to exam. Intelligent man but terrible teaching skills

I had to keep a tutor to help me so that i could clear the courses he was teaching.! He is kinda average with doesnt really takes interests in the class, his handwriting gets a lil difficult to understand , he also never goes off topic like most professors do.! But has a very good knowledge about the stuff he teaches, tests are open book notes pc.?

Good Professor. Lectures are nice bcuz he actually works out problems in class, instead of just going through a powerpoint. Tests are hard and barely enough time to finish. He does use the book and hints towards which types of problems on exams. Lets you make up 1 exam. Tough class no matter what but I would def recommend if you like thermo.

he gives a makeup test at the end but its so hard you might as well keep your origional grades. He was also gone alot for reasearch so the TA had to teach and it made you really appreicate his lectures.

I thought Dr. Chow was probably one of the most knowledgable professors I have had, EXTREMELY passionate about what he teaches and that translates well in the classroom. If you pay attention to class for the first test and do well on the term project, this is a very worthwhile class. I also thought Dr. Chow was extremely helpful to students.

Lectures are useful to attend because class notes often closely approximate an exam problem, but it is possible to pass without attending. Exams are open book/notes/laptops, and he allows a retake at the time of the final, and also curves. No HW or quizzes. Sometimes goes on tangents while lecturing, but they are usually very interesting.

Doesn't teach the material very well, but his tests aren't that hard. Let's just say he is much easier then Minardi. Just make sure you UNDERSTAND the material, because it's open book open note so it is not necessary to memorize anything.

Great Prof. He actually speaks clear english. Does not show any examples in class but h.w. is good enough practice. Some test were harder than hw but he curves if class average is low. He let the class retake the first test becuase of the low average. Thermo is a tough class no matter who you take it with and i would recomend him.

I think Dr.chow thinks he is too good to teach us, undergraduates. If so, he has to realize there are many better professors than him who are still teaching us. I forgot what he told in todays class already!!!!!!!! while I still remember what my dynamics professor taught me 2 semesters before.

He cannot teach whatsoever. He only lectures and do no examples. He gives you problems to do for practice and the solutions that goes with it but it's totally different from the test.Tests are open book and notes but you spend all your time looking up tables in the back.Don't take this class PERIOD unless you have to.Take another for ur elective.

I am not sure how this man became a professor, because he is definately unqualified. His assigned homework, when compared to the tests, are completely different, and not to mention the grading is totally unfair!!!
