Professor Rose gives incredibly interesting lectures. He is very clear and easy to understand. He presents information you won't find in any standard textbooks, & includes some videos. He is obviously an expert in what he teaches. Instead of exams there are 3 papers to write. Need to set own deadlines, be independent. Loved his class!

Professor Rose is a great teacher! He never took attendance, not even on the first day. Go to class though! It's interesting. There are two essays in the whole class, there isn't even a final exam. I got an A.

Not an easy class if you're looking for an A, as Prof Rose is a good writer himself, so he will critique quite a bit. Not too difficult if you're looking for a passing grade however, but where most classes I'd easily get an A for papers, I got at best B+ on them. No other homework beyond 3 papers (one is 10 pages). Don't buy all textbooks.

AMAZING TEACHER! He is so funny & nice. He does not care if you attended class but to pass his class you have to attend. His test come straight from lecture. He tells you exactly what will be in the test & never tricks you, even giving students options during the test on what to write on. Ken tells stories he does not lecture, he is amazing.

Coolest teacher. He's nice, funny, clear, and has interesting lectures. One of the best teachers at Chico. You don't have to go to class, but it is in your best interest to do so for his exams are 100% lecture based.

Loved him! He's very old so he's got his routine down and knows what he's talking about. Very straight forward with what he is looking for on tests. Barely used books. All tests are essay format but graded pretty easy. Shows lots of movies. Attendance is not mandatory, you can miss a lot of class and still get a good grade I'm sure.

Prof Rose is awesome! He's the best prof I've had at Chico. Attend lectures and there's no need to read the book. Only 2 midterms and 1 final to make up grade. Attendance not mandatory, but good idea to go. He loves the subject and knows what he's talking about. I recommend him!! And I hate history.

His class was actually very interesting. History has never been my best subject, but as long as you can write clear essays and remember dates, then you should be fine with the two essay midterms and final. Those are the ONLY grades in the class, which is why I only passed with a C. When he tells you to read something, READ IT.

Ken is a good teacher. He's very nice and clear. The class is all tests/essays so no homework/busywork. He is pretty easy grader and is a sucker for dates in the essay. Don't buy a book. Attendance isnt mandatory but his tests come from his lectures. He gives a study guide. Lots of movies. Pretty good class.

If you enjoy writing essays and not taking tests, this is the class. It's an online class so the 3 essays (20 pages altogether) were the only requirement-- so they better be good! He does lecture in a monotone, but the information was great.

Go to class every day and take notes, that way you don't have to read. The study guide should be your LIFE when studying for the test. Practice them all, and know the information for each one by heart. There are 3 grades in the class: 2 midterms, 1 final. Pass them and you will pass the class, hence why the study guides are so important!

Rose is my favorite teacher. His classes are really refreshing next to the rest of the pompous, self absorbed staff of the history department. You really will learn so much from him and you will enjoy every minute of his classes. Its a shame that he only teaches 2 classes now because I would love an excuse to take another class with him.

After his class, I was interested in a time and place in history that before this class I had absolutely no interest in. Great readings, great critiques...helped me be a better listener and writer.
