Dr. Roth is one of the greatest teachers I have had the pleasure to get to know. He is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about film study. He is a truly unique individual that loves to teach his students through fun and innovative ways. He is not a traditional teacher but everything he teaches you, you will remember 10 years later.

He is easily the strangest man I have ever encountered. BUT his class is super easy, just show up and you receive an A. The hardest part of this class was staying quiet because he hates noise. Lectures are terribly long. Don't let your phone go off or you get kicked out of class. Show up and stay quiet and you're golden.

Eccentric. Will make constant references to movies from 30405060 years ago. Easily bothered by germs. Sometimes won't come if raining hard outside. Very easy but there's lots of boredom. Also, he'll take 20 points off if he sees your phone.

Comment:

Dr. Roth is an excellent teacher. I took his Film Appreciation class during my first semester at Lamar, and after three years I still consider his class my favorite. He is a strange man, he told my class he used to be a spy), but he knows his stuff. The class is extremely easy. Just show up and watch old films, the A will com naturally.

Although it is very easy to get an A in this course, it was the worst class I've taken. I was interested in film, but you don't learn a thing from Dr. Roth. We talked about maybe 3-4 movies and even then, only about the lighting. He's self-centered and rude. For the final, we did an assignment we'd already done and he literally read us the answers.

SUPER EASY class. Dr. Roth is crazy and makes all his students put together his class for extra credit but he's hilarious! He's clearly knowledgeable about film but he does go off topic a lot. A lot of people didn't like him in my class, but if you look past the oddness he's an alright guy. Super easy assignments, etc.

He is insane! Rude and very strange. Will yell at anyone who makes noise and hates a lot of random things. Class is super easy, he literally gives you the answers, so if you keep your head down and ignore his insanity you should be fine.

You need to get use to his quirks and rules. I was bored a lot, but by the end of the semester I did actually learn a few new things about Film. Its an easy A, if you can be quiet and just listen to him ramble.

Awesome teacher! You will definitely hear about him from other students if you spend enough time in the comm bldg. Some good some bad, but you will remember the things he teaches, and if you just show up to class you should easily make an A. Also he likes people to talk quietly. He has his quirky moments, but I definitely recommend his class.

Kicked a random student out of class on the second day for no reason. Frequently curses at the class in German and forces them to haul his "supplies" around. Told a student with a handicap to "run faster". OVERALL THE BEST PROF ON CAMPUS.

I haven't seen Dr. Roth since 1974, when we were both grad students at Florida State University. I immediately recognized him from the descriptions here of his ... um ... eccentricities. Overlook them, and you will be educated by a brilliant, passionate, and genuinely nice human being. He was a good friend, and I still think of him fondly.

GREAT PROF!!! At first I didnt like him because he has a problem with noise. He hates it when you talk louder than a whisper and I'm a loud person. But after a while I got used to him. He is a great teacher and even though he is strange he prepares you for things that you may need in the future. He made me think and also made me talk quiter! lol!
