I adored Dr. Nelson. In his human development class, we had 3 essays and 4 exams. He gives study guides for each of the exams and very clear rubrics for each of the papers. His attendance is not mandatory but I promise you will want to attend his class. I looked forward to his class every day. This is easily my favorite class and favorite professor

I loved taking Human Development from Professor Nelson. He makes lectures interesting and applicable. He does test on what is in the book and doesn't always cover it in class so just know, you'll have to read a lot to do well on the tests.

Dr. Nelson is amazing--I loved the lectures, and he teaches so that you understand and learn, so that you can become your best self. I'm taking another class from him next semester. You are graded solely on 3 papers and 4 exams (100 questions). The papers look for specific things, if you meet with a TA it's easy to get an A. Study for the tests tho

I loved this class not only because of Prof. Nelson's lecture material, but also because the information in this class is so crucial to know and so fascinating to learn. Tests are a little long, but very manageable. A few papers - but if you make effort to meet with TAs and request they grade your paper, you will do fine! Would take 100 more times.

Amazing professor and human being. I would take any class that Prof Nelson teaches. He is very caring and sensitive to all people, comments, concerns, topics, etc. The lectures are very engaging. All readings can be found online (don't buy the packet). Pretty easy A as long as you pay attention.

Larry Nelson is not just one of my favorite professors; he is one of my favorite humans. He feels like a top scholar in his field and he is highly qualified to teach. I loved coming to class, his lectures were uplifting and enlightening. I am not a Human Development major, but I think anyone who wants to be a parent should take this class. LOVE it.

Seriously Dr. Nelson is an amazing professor. He is passionate about what he teaches, cares deeply about his students, and is willing to discuss just about anything. The lectures are very interesting, and are important for the test. Your grade is solely based on 3 papers and 4 tests, so make sure you study up! Textbook is semi-necessary.

Worst class I've had at BYU. He teaches his opinion as doctrine, and it can be horrible opinions. 1 class was on 'noble and great ones', all about how we're great b/c we were born in the church, and even said that europe has less noble and great people because they all left and that's why his mission wasn't about converts. He's very egotistical

Dr. Nelson is the best!!! I loved his class so much I considered changing my major just to take more classes from him. He cares so deeply about what he teaches and does a great job incorporating the gospel into his lectures. If you are taking this class, you HAVE to take it from him. One of the best professors at BYU!!

Dr. Nelson gives amazing, thought-provoking lectures that make the material applicable to anyone's life. This is a great class to take, even if family life is not your forte. 10/10 would love to take again. Cant stress it enough. He conveys material very plainly with examples. Only 3 papers and 4 tests. READ THE TEXTBOOK. Saves lots of headaches

Amazing teacher!!He is really passonite about what he teaches and it shows! His lectures were incredible and I looked forward to it everyday. He has TA reviews for all his papers, and his tests are pretty easy. MEMORIZE THE STUDY GUIDES!! As long as you memorize the study guide before you take the test you will do great! Never even opened the book.

I hated his curriculum for his eternal families class. The TA's were very subjective when grading, plus, his participation points systematically punishes students for being honest. I received a 65% on an assignment because I used a scholarly article that wasn't peer reviewed. His amazing lectures aren't worth his frustrating curriculum.

He was okay. His class was pretty easy so I can't complain, but I didn't like him much as a person. He seemed really fake, not at all genuine. He also refused to discuss a significant grading mistake with my friend because she brought it up after his grading deadline (not the university's). He also never mentioned this supposed deadline.

I never opened the textbook and I was successful in his class because I attended all of them all! (His tests are based on his lectures: sit in the front, take good notes and enjoy!) Professor Nelson is amazingly smart and knowledgeable as well as kind. He explains hard concepts very clearly. I highly recommend taking this class from him!

Dr. Nelson is the BEST! I had him for SFL 200 (Eternal Family) and absolutely loved the class! I took human development from him last year and both classes were absolutely phenomenal! Eternal Family is a lot easier grade-wise and most of your grade comes from attendance and reading. His lectures are life-changing!
