Prof Fanning is very unclear with what he wants and expects. Do not take him for Sociology of Sport, he never responds to emails, and his final term paper is ridiculous. Avoid him if possible.

The man is extremely unclear about what he expects. The reading assignments and questions are very vague. Almost impossible to give give this guy an answer that will please him. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.

Basically what everyone else said. He's one of the worst professors I've had at UTC. He's very unapproachable and doesn't help when you ask questions or email him. The assignments are long and boring, and the final paper is a bit ridiculous. I would avoid taking him if you can. :/

This man is a cancer on UTC! He gives ungodly amounts of reading and requires that you outline everything you read. He only takes them up half the time, even though they are hours of work. He asks dead end questions, so only his answer can be right. He generalizes all races and religions, mocking them, and attacks you for having varying opinions.

I'll just cut to the chase. He is by far the worst professor in the HHP dept. He is very rude, and does not care to take one step out of his way to help you in any form. I made an A in the class, which is not too hard to do if you just follow all of the rules and his guidelines. Just be prepared to bite your tongue, he can really test your patience

Fanning would do UTC a favor if he left. He is the only professor that teaches 201. If you have to take this class summer is better with another professor. Boring class, mid-term and final are essay questions and very difficult. Will only accept the answer he "thinks" is right. Long term paper that he is anal about. Avoid at all costs!

I have to take his classes because he is the only one who teaches them! No choice at all! The grade mainly comes from the midterm, final, and term paper. The tests are all essay questions and he does count the words! Crazy! One bad grade on an exam will ruin getting an A. He WILL NOT consider any other opinion, so write what he wants.

He has a monopoly on a select few classes and exploits that fact. I truly hope he reviews this website so he can see what people think about him. Since the buzzard is too healthy to die soon, hopefully he will quit or retire in the near future. His abscence would be a godsend to the UTC campus and the HHP department.

Everything I want to say about this awful little man would be thought libelous so I'll be somewhat cordial. He is an awful teacher, there is no real curriculum, rather an endless and overall useless wave of formatting techniques you shall never use outside of this class and his propaganda about a organization he is a part of. In summary, avoid him.

I would write what he is really like but this site would just delete it because it would be considered slander and libelous even though it is all true. All you need to know is avoid this teacher with all your might and you should be fine.

after taking two of his courses, I have come to the conclusion that his methods are archaic and not useful. He does not grade fairly and when you ask for an explanation all he says is "it is what it is." how is that useful? He doesnt teach, you are better off just reading the text (which is the whole class anyway). Avoid him if you can.

Fanning is not a bad teacher. You just have to do exactly what he says. Come to class and do all assigments. His assignments arent that hard exxcept for the end of term paper. The assignment are just a way for him to see if you are willing to work hard. I took him and got an A. His study guides are the test.

Dr. Fanning makes every effort to help his students to understand that there exists a relationship between the philosophical, psychological, and sports. Students must realize that it is a lecture course plus required field work assignments. Current health issues and trends are discussed throughout the course. Difficult but informative course.

He must think he is a philosophy teacher. I was really excited about taking this class but was very disappointed when numerous lectures were spent learning to format papers in useless ways. Lectures never had anything to do with HHP.

Fanning tries to scare you! He is one of those teachers that tries to weed students out of the HHP department. As long as you do the work and put forth some effort, he notices and you'll do well. His class is not easy so don't slack off, but you don't have to study 24/7 to pass.

I would like to rephrase my previous post. Fanning is not a negative to the field. He is a very good thing for the FIELD. He is just not doing a very good job with this class. He does a lot of great things in the community and the field, and that should be commended
