Comment:
I was expecting a better professor for a 330 class. Spanish is my nativ laguage and sometimes she can't connect her sentences properly. Lectures are boring, she knows her history but not a good professor at teaching spanish. She thinks she is always right, old style professor. Her class requires a good amount of reading. I speak better spanish! lol

Comment:
Dra. Nord is the best. Some of these comments made by other students are negative because they are not willing to put effort into class. Dra. Nord has high standards so that her students can learn and develop - NOT to make life easy.I have taken three classes from her thus far and she has exceptional command of the Spanish language.

She is a nice professor. Likes to have class discussions but will pick on those not paying attention. Tends to correct her students a lot but it helps in order to correct common Spanglish mistakes. Her prompts for essays are open ended, she gives a topic and you give your opinion. Easy A

You watch movies for homework and do exercises to discuss in class daily. Moderate amount of busy work (do something for every single class), but it's pretty easy - vocab quiz and short essay for each movie, and one 5-minute presentation. She is nice but frequently corrects students which can rub you the wrong way. Not bad for a SPAN elective.

There is a lot of reading. Not reading will get you lost in class. So read and don't get behind!!! 60% of work is reading. 40% of the work are two essays and two exams. She is a bit harsh with essay grading, especially if most students taking her class are graduate students. Do not take if you don't like reading.

Terrible professor. She's not a Spanish native speaker and barely dominates the language, let alone to guide a literature lecture in a convincing way. She also plays favorites, so if you are not one of them, she will stab you on the back. Not good at all.

isnt clear on what she expects for essays. seems like she has something to prove, being white and teaching so many hispanic native speakers. EX) basically made fun of me for making a typo on an essay. if possible, will not take again.

Her class is somewhat demanding, and there's a lot of reading. But here are some tips: Pay attention in class, take very good notes, read at least something or know what the books read are about, and organize some study groups. Surprisingly I read only like 10% of the readings and still got an A. Just follow my tips and you should be good.

Professor Nord is a very good and helpful teacher. Her lectures are clear and prepare you well for exams/future work in the major, although they can be a bit boring at times. She's incredibly nice and a very fair grader. If you're at all worried about your essay, just finish it a few days early, go to her office hours, and she'll go over it w/you.

She is a super sweet lady with a sense of humor. She doesn't collect hw, but make sure to read all the stories and to actually study. I never studied so i got pretty bad scores. Go to class all the time and pay attention to everything. She likes it when people participate. She is overall a good teacher, but not necessarily fun material.

Boring class! She picks on only certain people to answer all her questions! If you just take notes on what she says in class you can pass her tests without studying! Not the best professor in the spanish department!

She gives out a lot of work, but most of it she doesn't collect unless she specifically says that she is going to. If you participate in class and show her that you've done the reading it will be sufficient for a good grade. She is awsome.

Sweet lady, commendable teacher, not a lot of exciting material to work with. A 3 hour class is a Bataan death march. Come caffeneited and ready to have your mind blown by an overload of things you never cared to hear about like el siglo de oro and la caballeria. Jazz up your papers and exams with a lot of examples and quotes and you're golden.
