If you actually want to learn genetics, do not take Yampolsky. Not helpful and makes a subject that should be enjoyable, a chore.

Has to be the most unorganized class at ETSU. Spaces exams out by almost 3 months. You have two exams, two quizzes, and a final. Lectures are long and rarely helpful. Do better to read from the textbook. Exams are random and questions seemingly come out of nowhere. Needs to have a better testing method. Most exams consists of 3 questions.

Loses track of what hes trying to say. Only 2 tests that are about 4 questions each. Not very helpful outside of class. If there is anyone else to take, I would take them.

Quirky and funny guy, really entertaining, engaging lectures. You CANNOT skip class and pass!! You have to THINK, not just memorize. His tests are very challenging but he wants you to pass!! You have to put in lots of effort but it pays off. He doesn't teach unnecessary filler info, just what you need to fully understand the concepts. Take notes!

While Dr. Yampolsky is passionate about genetics, I do not believe he conveys the topics very well. The tests do not mirror anything taught in lecture, and if your answer varies even a bit from his, you will be counted off for it. Also, it did not help that he left the country for two weeks and tested us over stuff we never discussed.

Dr. Yampolsky really cares and wants his students to do well. He tries his best to be helpful. His tests are not easy. You must study and work hard! He does give extra credit, especially at the end.

Yampolsky is the definition of a mad scientist. His lectures are interesting but his tests and quizzes are EXTREMELY hard. If you are not a hard working student that does the problems in the back of the book do not kid yourself and say you will for this class and try to take him and pass. If you take him make sure all other classes are easy.

His classes are okay. Text book and lecture are important. His tests are not impossible if you read but students get a bad score because for the lazy and unconventional format. There are not enough sources to understand and condition the mind for such questions. He is mean because the so called tests he uploads on d2l is not enough most of the time

I didn't enjoy this class whatsoever. From the beginning Dr. Yampolsky was clear he didn't care whether people passed or not, which was very discouraging to hear. Half the class failed and had to retake. His tests and quizzes are incredibly hard, even if you study for them for hours. Also, he was unnecessarily rude and had an awful attitude.

Dr. Yampolsky is a great lecturer and lots of fun to work with. His requirements for lab reports and HW can be confusing as he tells you in class what he wants and you have to write it down. Theres no printed rubric. This added a lot of difficulty to the course but it is very doable. Be prepared to work!

Dr. Yampolsky is fantastic! He's a total mad Russian scientist. He's really nice and hilarious. He has a great sense of humor and gives a lot of partial credit, even though he definitely challenges you to think. One of my favorite professors at the university. He's challenging though and focuses on making sure you can solve complicated problems.

I really looked forward to taking genetics before the semester actually began, but unfortunately it was a very unproductive course. Lev is a great guy and goes out of his way to help you if need be, however, the English is broken and consequently shows up on the exams that way, making it hard to figure out what he is even asking. Boring lectures.

He is funny and entertaining, as well as brilliant. He likes his subject and his students. If you ever wanted to know what it would be like to be in close proximity to a crazy Russian genius with a sense of humor, take his class. He is great in both Genetics and Molecular Evolution.

Dr. Y is an interesting guy. I started off hating him, but as the year passed, I ended up really liking him. His mannerisms and the way he speaks are hilarious! Make sure you turn your cell phone to silent in class though- he charges $5 if your phone rings during class. But he does buy us a couple of pizzas with that money on the day of the final!
