Well if you're reading this, you missed out. Ms. Bess has officially retired and moved up north. I had absolutely 0 experience with deaf culture or ASL prior to this class, but prof. Bess made it easy and fun to learn ASL. I wish her the best of luck and good health in her adventures. She deserves it.

This woman is beyond nice. It is unfortunate that she's retiring. Anyone who has anything nasty to say about her has a problem. She misses class a lot because of respiratory issues, but we never fell behind. She's a great teacher and she will be missed.

I loved Lily! She is so helpful and understanding, knowing that ASL is new to all of her students. Taking her class really gave me a passion for ASL. I learned SOOO much. Hands down the best class and professor of my college career.

the best teacher i've had at usf! made class so much fun and she's so sweet and adorable. i learned more in a semester of her class than in 2 years of spanish. can't wait to take asl2 with her and maybe even 3 bc it was that fun. lily is the best :)

She is one of the best instructors I have had at USF. There are only about 5 homework assignments. You need to read the book to do well on those. Watch the DVD to help you practice for tests. Make sure you check BB regularly for assignments. I was nervous about her being deaf at first, but you'll learn to communicate effectively quickly.

if you thought this class was hard you obviously never went. it was the only class i've looked forward to attending at usf. lilly is the best teacher ever, she makes sure you know everything perfect before the test. i don't get how you cannot get an a if you practice as with any language. stop being babies it's college

best teacher i've ever had at usf! so passionate about teaching and always makes sure you know every sign before she goes on. yes she's deaf,but who cares? she's also adorable & hilarious. i recommend this class to everyone it was so interesting, eye opening, and fun. i'm really loving asl now & can't wait to take asl2 with her in the fall :)

If you did not take a foreign language in HS, then you have to take 8 hrs at USF to graduate. Did not want to take Spanish, or any other class so ASL here I come! Lily is awesome!!! Go to class, and study the review and you are good to GO! Laid back class room environment. Home work is easy. If you are looking for a class TAKE THIS ONE! A+++

I love Lily. She is such a sweetheart and she makes ASL very fun. There are some assignments but they are very simple. There is an easy narrative at the end and she'll basically pass you as long as you attend class and participate in class. She is Deaf so she can't hear you but she's very good at reading lips. Professor Bess is the best! She is great and will help you with anything you need. Her tests and all the assignments are easy and you will pass the class as long as you practice. Professor Bess is awesome, I highly recommend her! I doubted that I would pick up ASL but I really have and I like it. She is a teacher who honestly cares about her students. I have turned in hw late and she still accepted with full credit. She also educates you in Deaf culture. Very nice lady, very clear what she expects from you.

I really enjoyed this teacher. The class isn't real easy but it isn't super hard either. What helped me the most is before the test go over the chapter review. Know the signs and read the chapters and you'll do good on the test. She is such a cute, sweet and funny women. Very animated!! I'm going to take her for sign language 2.

She is a wonderful, outgoing fun loving person. You will have fun with her. But BEWARE, she will cancel class many times throughout the semester, which will put you behind. She will do it with NO notice. Happened in my class 7 times. Develop friends that can call you when class is canceled so you can turn around and go home.
