Francus is among the best WVU's English Department has to offer. The texts she requires in her classes are nearly always prolific and carry well into class discussion. I can only describe the lectures as like being a kid again, and getting told fables or history that open your eyes and make you think. Definitely recommended.

Professor Francus is an excellent teacher and is very passionate about what she is teaching. There are few assignments in the course as most of the classes are spend reading/watching/analyzing text or film. Would recommend her for any course needed, but effort will be required as it isn't an easy A.

I liked the class overall. Professor Francus is pretty willing to help if you need it. She will look over your papers and give great feedback. Her classes are fun to attend, some kind of drag on a bit, but if you speak up in class it is well entertaining. I will be taking her again in the fall, so hopefully that class is just as fun!

This is by far the best English class I've taken, and it's definitely because of her. Not only is she extremely intelligent, but she is interesting and really helps you to understand the text, as well as challenges your views on it. The papers were fairly easy, and the readings for class are actually somewhat interesting. Great class!

Dr. Francus goes beyond the standard for what I consider to be a good professor. The class made me think outside the box and she was quick to challenge a lot of opinions to really challenge you and make you reach your full potential. The papers were difficult, but pay attention to her suggestions! She is very good about helping you if you seek it!

Not a bad class. Extremely tough paper grading, tons of reading. Ive received A's in every eng class ive ever taken, & will be lucky to get a B. If you're not 100% interested or havent read prior to class, good luck. Very helpful for those who seek it though.

One of the very best professors I've had. Witty, brilliant, and engaging. If you need help with anything, she puts so much time and effort into making sure that you can succeed, and you can tell that she loves the material and her job. She gives great constructive criticism and allows rewrites. The class was truly enjoyable.

Do not go through WVU without taking Prof. Francus at least once.

Best class! We read Jane Austen and modern adaptations--like Bridget Jones' Diary--and got to watch the film versions. If you enjoy chick lit and fun assignments for a W class (which is surprising) definitely take this! She makes it fun. Only class this semester I actually look forward to!

She was without a doubt the BEST professor I had at WVU. She made learning fun and interesting, she easily kept my attention in lecture and made the time fly by. Do your readings and take notes in class and you'll do fine. Very helpful and understanding in all situations, she's there to help you not hurt you. I ABSOLUTELY recommend you take her!

In higher level courses, she expects too much from her students. If you do not understand exactly what she means in discussion or paper comments, you need to immediately call her out. She will give breaks to students who threaten her with grade appeals or sob stories. Grading is anything but fair.

Comment:
I loathe "antiquated" writers like Chaucer, but I knew after wading through the reading alone, Dr. Francus would explain it all in a way that was crystal clear & never boring. I'd recommend her class without hesitation. She is enthusiastic about her subject. Her brilliance is obvious but she still finds ways to connect with her novice students.
