Incredibly knowledgeable and clear, with lots of information in lecture. Always uploads slides online. Tangents are amazing to listen to, so always go to lecture - he's a really funny guy! Grade dependent on 2 essays, one final, and participation. Leaves strong feedback on 2nd paper and wants to see you improve. Final incredibly easy if you read!

Griffith is one of my favorite professors at Cal! His wild tangents are awesome. Reading Greek with him is a blast. If you are learning Greek, be sure to take a reading course with him. He makes you work hard, but he's a fair grader.

Griffith's lectures define the difference between university and grade school- learning from him is an academic experience rather than just memorizing a textbook for the grade. He has an excellent accent and personality. That being said, the class should be called "Greek Civ through the lens of Greek Plays" because I read much more than expected.

Prof. Griffith is really helpful and very likely to discuss with students after class and with emails. He attaches class reviews on bcourses every week. As long as you read all the books, you will get a good grade.

One of the smartest people any one will likely meet, his (self-acknowledged) habit of rambling may seem confusing to some, but his knowledge of ancient literature is astounding, and moreover his approach to a literature class is top-notch; a real humanist and deep thinker, listen and learn.

Rambles quite a bit and is repetitive, but I still enjoyed his class. Good course material, and he's definitely into what he's teaching.

Prof. Griffith is very interesting professor, who babbles on and on during lecture. the lecture are incomprehensible, but the material is fun. if you are willing to do the reading you will learn a lot from this class. there are two papers in the class which are easy and the final wasnt too bad

He is a really nice, knowledgeable guy, but take the tangent comments seriously. Frustratingly incapable of getting to the main point, which makes going to lecture pointless. DO THE READING; it's basically all you're tested on. The GSIs are usually pretty good at clearing up lecture. Would be a better prof for a class with a concentrated topic.

Really cool guy. Lectures are sometimes a little boring, but he makes really great points in almost all of them. My GSI (David J) was awesome. Papers and final are all really easy providing you put some effort into them and do all the readings. Highly recommended class.

Goes on wild tangents and is impossible to take notes from. Extremely repetitive. No midterm, and the two papers and final are graded leniently and based off of readings. I love the subject matter, but don't take this class unless you are a Classics major... otherwise, I think it would just be too boring.

This class was very interesting but his lectures were boring. There really a waste of time you don't even have to go because the test is just based on the readings. Most of the time I didn't even go to lecture and when I did I took a good nap.

Professor Griffith is an excellent, kind, caring and patient professor. He's one of the few Berkeley professors I've had who has a heart. He does go on tangents and digresses, which may bother some impatient people, but he nevertheless cares for all his students and for that he is worth taking at any chance you can.
