Professor Mary Insabella was awesome. I finished her class one week early as it was an 8 week class. 2 exams. Gives study guides for them and the exact same stuff shown on it will show up. Didnt read the book really. Just did the simulations. Very easy A as it is just basic computer class for CSCI-1001. Responds to my emails within one day.

Everything must be perfect if you don't want points taken away. She likes to take points from every little thing she sees. The course is not difficult but the way she does it makes it a lot harder than it should be.

You can maybe skip class, you just don't know when there will be graded in class assignments. The content is also easier to learn if you are in class with her to give feed back because the power points posted online are not helpful compared to her lectures.

I prolonged my graduation date and dropped her class because she was so unbearable. She seems to not even understand Java or OOP herself. She has a very disrespectful attitude. Lectures were rushed. She expects you to already know Java, even though this is an intro course. Avoid this instructor.

Horrible teacher. If I did not have prior experience, there is no way I would pass. Lectures are not helpful, most of the class is completely confused. She is rude and does not usually answer questions that students ask.

Comment:

I hate programming, but I enjoyed her class. Gives time in class to do homework and always willing to answer questions and help. She wants you to pay attention during class (as all teachers should) and will call you out if you're disruptive (Thank you Mary!) Not the easiest grader but her requirements will make you a better programmer.

I had Mrs. Insabella for my networking concepts class and she was a really good online teacher. She is helpful but too strict in the java course. She is so confusing teacher and no clarity in instruction. Make you to do everything and no help from the teacher. She never do any problem in the class and she talk only. Expect least grade and more work. Try to avoid taking this class with her.

I'm actually only 5 weeks into the semester. I was really into the class to start, but after a few weeks I realized she wasn't going to be a good teacher. Her lectures are almost pointless and way to fast. She doesn't really teach it's more like you having to copy what she does. She isn't specific at all. I would not take one of her clases again.

Decent teacher, but on the strict side. It felt like high school with the way she wanted students to look at her when talking & she will call you out if you don't appear to be paying attention. She is very helpful when explaining things one-on-one. She will often notify you if u seemed to misunderstand the lab & sometimes gives you another chance.

I agree that it is pretty much teach yourself for this course. I thought the class started out really easy and became very difficult by the end. Her lectures are essentially useless. She flies through PPTs so you really don't get much from them. Quiz and exam questions can be tough to. Questions sent to her via email aren't always answered well.

This teacher really sucks. You pretty much end up teaching yourself everything out of the book. She doesn't go over anything. Her grading is very unfair. It sucks she's the only teacher for Java 1. I wish I never had to take her class.

The only Java 1 Professor. Can't avoid taking her. Be prepared to teach yourself. Class time: making programs with assigned teams & non helpful lectures. Unclear explanations of what we need to know. Everything is done by the book. Some short answers after each chapter are used in chapter quizzes. Read the chapter! You need to understand the codes.

Comment:

Not a great teacher but class was very easy. She teaches directly from book which is 11 years old. 90% of the class is based on applet's, which are non-existent in programming anymore. HTML5 is actually doing away with it completely. You would learn more with some updated library books about java.

It seems like the Java classes are permanently set for 8AM Saturdays, so prepare yourself. After having taken her class and moved to 269, I wish she would have taught more of what is typically required (JavaDoc!) rather than rushing through powerpoints and not straying from anything in the horribly written textbook. Java 2 is a BIG step up.
