He explains very well, reviews problem sets, and always answers your questions if you have some. In the end he gives the final exam where you can score over 100 and he also curves final grades.

Despite previous positive comments for this professor he has changed his corriculum since. He is pretty fair when grading his exams which happen to be quite difficult. It was very hard. I listened to previous comments and studied the text mostly, DONT DO THAT, study the notes. WARNING he is not generous when grading the final.

You can get through this class cause this is a core class, not a major class. But depends on your behavior, attitude, and intentions. I personally didn't like the professor and physics was hard for me. Remember even if you don't good in the first two exams try your best in the lab exams and the final you will get through it. Trust me.

An amazing brilliant professor & person! Prepares u well 4 his exams, 1,2 exam problems gives u bf hand (derivations), explains very well & makes experiments in class, to make u see how the stuff works, always ready to help. TIP: if u care for an answer - ask ?'s AFTER the class, do all HW problems - guaranteed A! It was a joy to be in his class!

I took phy with him and he is not easy to undrstand...the way he writes his notes nd stuff..but if u practice his hw booklet nd old exams enough u will be fine and more than book try to understand him nd go to him in his office hrs. I never took phys but still I passed if u took phy in the past then it shudnt be hard for u.

Horrible Teacher. I studied long hours and FAILED. Don't want to live anymore! Physics is my favorite subject. But now my life is ruined because of Sobel. I had almost 10 test from previous years yet still failed with a 50! I know all my stuff. His test are pathetic! You have to be a NERD to pass with a 65. I have no motive to live. Physics :(

Very hard. He seems nice but really is not. I think the previous posters are crazy. He was one of my worst proffesors. Teaches to himself because thats the only person who understands. Take someone else.

Physics is not an easy class in general! Pr. Sobel is a great teacher, he tries to answer all the questions and is very helpful! He gives all you need for the tests during the lectures. He explains all the problems from the homeworks! I enjoyed the class and got an A!!!

coming to class is a must...there are concepts and derivations that he does in class that are not always so clearly explained in the text...so taking notes and understanding the problems he does in class are important...overall he doesnt explain the material so well but his tests are fair and you can get good grade in his class

physics is a hard class...u have to stay ontop of the material...he's an ok prof... exams are difficult since its 4 long problems and he can be stingy with partial credit...come to class, study like crazy, and make sure to see him when u dont understand stuff.

You can do well in this class! Sobel teaches his own way so if you don't come to class or get the notes, studying from the book won't help you. There are easy questions on the test if you know what he did in class. Don't go crazy trying to do the hard problems from the book - study problems done in class and the extra one he hands out. & Good Luck!

People, do not blame your professor if YOU ARE stupid. I got an A for this class, and it did not take me much effort. Two nights before the exam were enough to get 131% on the final. Use your brains at least sometimes.

I don't know what these people are saying. He's a fine teacher, clear, but just doesn't cater to morons. The point is, it's a physics class!! It's not core music, and if you think it's hard and boring and your professor sucks, wait till you hit core GEO!! Then you're in for a treat.
