Comment:

Dr. Strasser's classes are intense, but he's the best professor I had in my entire school career. I used to hate music history, but that class made me enjoy it. I was an international student, and he was very understanding with my language problems. Just make sure you take notes consistently, and study for the listening quizzes, and you'll be fine.

Comment:

A nice man but a very poor teacher. All graded materials minus the mini essays are incredibly difficult to prepare for, especially his tests. He's known for pulling out random factoids not discussed in class. Advice? Take great notes and do lots of praying.

I had Music Hist & Lit III with Strasser. Honestly, I had more work for that one class than I had for anyother class. It was a hinderence to actually learning the materials needed for class. His tests are some of the worst written tests I have ever encountered. Very unhelpful and constantly blames the students for not performing well.

I enjoy Dr. Strasser's lectures. He's a very intelligent scholar who made music history comes alive with his traveling experiences. To pass this class, keep up your review for this class daily (books, lecture notes, and CDs) and study with a partner.

I had to have him for 3 different Music History classes and failed the last one- had to retake it in order to graduate-- the only class they would accept as a replacement was a GRADUATE course at a different school. I got an A in the graduate course, but failed the undergrad class at BW just to give you a comparison of how ridiculous his class is!!

I really liked Dr. Strasser. I never really enjoyed learning about music history, especially from a textbook, but his lectures definitely made the class more palatable. He tried to make the material more relevant to our lives even when some of the time periods we studied were so far removed from us. I cannot advise future and current students enough to LOOK AT YOUR NOTES EVERY NIGHT or you will never remember anything for his tests. Don't skip class. He takes attendance!

Try to take Listening to Musics of the World or Music Hist/Lit with another teacher if possible. This professor really took the joy out of pursuing a liberal arts education. Hardest tests I ever took at B-W.

I liked Dr. Strasser when I took his class. (I graduated in '05). His class was VERY tough. You really need to study your notes EVERY DAY to remember everything you need to know for his tests. I did not do that and I believe that is why I got the grades that I did. I enjoyed his stories and lectures though.

After my degree was completed, I look back on my Experience at B-W and this is the ONE professor that would actually prevent me from recommending a music program to a future student. I know he gets many TERRIBLE reviews, yet here he still is? Way to go, B-W. Sure, I'm sending everyone I know.....not.

I am required to take 3 courses taught by Dr. Strasser. I failed 2 of them and had to retake them for a better grade. Dr. Strasser wasn't very helpful even though I was clearly struggling. I went to him for assistance several times, he would talk alot, assure me that I was doing fine then send me on my way.

Very interested in topic. However, is not as helpful as he was before he got married. Now he doesn't have as much time for his students. Tests are very hard and despite what other people say, I have taken his classes multiple times and I know he does not repeat any tests. Make sure you study. This goes for any class he teaches.

He's a friendly teacher and takes interest in his students but the class sucks. Tests are extremely difficult and the the material is overwhelming. Doesn't do that great in lectures and NEVER lets the class out on time!!

A very friendly man. A lot of material to learn for tests, but he does give you a good study guide for them. Not too many grades in the class, so there's not too much room to mess up. Just remember to take advantage of the study guides he gives you. The listening sections can be pretty tricky.. ask questions during the review for the tests.

He is a nice man. Bad teacher. The tests are amazingly difficult, I've only passed two of them, I think, and I study very hard and am relatively capable of passing tests. He cares about the welfare of his students, and will help you out if you show an interest in the class and a need.

This is the most immoral teacher I have ever had in my life. Although I give him props for being so passionate about the subject, It doesn't mean a thing when he stares at all the females to the point where distracting, grades unfairly, and has no apparent respect for his students. hard to learn much when you cram for tests then forget it all.
