He gives out lots of extra credit opportunities, watch a movie and write a paper, go on the class trip to DC art museums, etc. He actively avoids getting to know his students in an attempt to not be biased, though he will answer specific questions you have. He doesn't require you to know dates, but what artist did what is important.

Comment:

Mendez has lectures and then he gives an exam on them. The book is not necessary, I would just write down everything he says to, for example he would say "I would note..." The exams are half on the last exam, half the new material learned. It is fill in the blank, but he gives a word band! Be able to describe an art movement and definitions!

He is a causal teacher, and doesn't expect you to be interested in his class. He makes fun of himself whenever he makes a mistake, and there is barely any work in his class. Most of your grade relies on the four tests he gives throughout the semester, which he does not give detail on whats on it.

Mendez is awesome. Don't bother buying a book, every test in Art 103 comes from his power points. This class is basically an introductory art history course. I highly recommend if you like looking at art and listening to funny lectures.

Extremely easy class. He is extremely funny and usually lets the class out early. Does cuss a lot during lecture but it didn't bother me. Tests are all fill in the blank and build up from the previous ones, not hard to pass at all. He has a few written assignments throughout but you get an A as long as you complete it.

He is a cool guy but a horrible teacher. I suggest to skip this class until you really do need to take it. He only uses power point slides and more than half of what's in the book is not used at all. Don't buy the book just go to the library. Also, he is monotone and is boring to listen to. He needs to change his tests b/c everyone fails them.

B&W1 - Mike is very helpful. Available when you need him, just ask for his help. He gives very constructive criticism and he knows how to evaluate a visual image very well. His experience with photography and as a teacher shows. He explains things extremely well. Just when you think you have a question forming, he's usually answering it, unasked.

Mendez is very interesting for the classes that he teaches. I took Intro to Visual Art and he somehow managed to keep most of the class's attention by telling stupid facts or jokes throughout the class. Tests are hard, but if you pay attention and study what he tells you to, should have no problem getting a C or higher. You WILL learn something new

this guy must smoke about 50 packs of cigs a day! He smells awful, but is very smart I like his personal work, forgets at times he is not 21 years old and is dating students on campus! besides that tests are pretty concise lectures are long winded but its shepherd so who else ya gonna take?

Even though Mike is a cool and hilarious guy (and let us watch the Simpsons in class once) he is just terrible for Photo History. The tests are really difficult, he asks really obscure questions so make sure you attend class! He is very smart and a great artist, just not a great teacher. His art his class is easier but still hard to sit through.

A pretty boring class, but still totally manageable. He gives you a study guide for everything on the tests. Likable. Occassionally has a funny, dry sense of humor. He is indeed hot... though I wish he'd wear deoderant more often. I had to learn to sit in the back row. And maybe get out of the black clothes 24/7... mmm... out of clothes...
