read the book, work the problems, its not a bad class if you put the time in. average around B-, which is very generous

Prof Porter only seems to be teaching in order to continue his research. Extremely smart man but does not know the difference between teaching and reading from power points. If you have no background in Orgo, his class is EXTREMELY difficult.

He's really sweet- a little socially awkward but really wants to help his students. As long as you study, I don't think the class was incredibly challenging. The quizzes are tough because each multiple choice counts for like eight points but if you go to class and know your stuff then you'll probably end up with an A.

Learn *epoxide formation* and INTRAmolecular reactions. It shows up more than once. Stereochemistry is the hardest part. Relearn it for the final. Know chair conformations! Know enantiomer vs diastereomers vs structural isomers vs conformational isomers vs identical LOOK UP these terms, know them please please please!

My grades- tests- 97, 93, 93 94 quizzes- 83, 83, 84, 92 not sure about final 93~ He's tough. Study your lights out. Resonance is key. Know molecular orbital diagrams for first quiz. Remember, a reonance structure will be favored if it is the only one in which all the atoms have a complete octet. Octet rule outweighs electronegativity.

Ned Porter is tough teacher, but he is fair, intelligent clear, and helpful. His class will help build a foundation for the mcat. Class average was 83~, although the entire class did get 5's on their ap exams. I got a 93 and got an A(notA-), but I had to spend hours every day studying. Office hours are helpful, but I only went once. Study HARD

Orgo has ridiculously difficult and in-depth techniques and concepts but he does his best to simplify things a bit. Tests are 85% lecture, 15% book. Book complicates everything with details. Once used to test style, not too hard.No real HW just tests and quizzes. Tries to give partial credit and is fair in grading and curving. Good guy Tough class.
