Nice guy but a little bit disorganized. Skilled at drawing but even he says it's difficult to teach such a subject. He's alright though. Wish there was more guidance within the course and less just hands on practicing - even for a drawing class. Show you are interested and engaged and he will give you good grades - take the time to talk to him.

everyone's opinion about him is the same, except for the recent one. i wonder if he still works here. this guy is the most disorganized instructor i came across. i dont like this prof because he expected me to hand in assignments without clarifying the due date. i should have filed a complaint against him to the department

Neil is a very honest and funny guy. He doesn't mark on whether or not he thinks you are a good artist, but whether or not you have grasped the concepts he is teaching and the effort you put in. I recommend him to everyone!

Very easygoing and encouraging of students' aspirations, (which is a rarity at UBC, it seems..) Allows students to move at their own pace and work through their own process. Marks students based on their passion for art, not whether he likes the work.
