Comment:
Dr. Holland is unclear and doesn't accommodate to anyone. The structure of her class is you do the reading/note taking from the textbook, you do school observations on your time, write endless random papers, you lead the discussion (she'll put her 2 cents in), and repeat. If you don't understand something-read the syllabus. Miss a due date? Sucks.

She demands a high volume of revisions, so expect to work hard for whatever grade she see fits. If you do not have good attendance you are not likely to pass. She writes beneficial comments, but is not easily accessible if you work full time, so it is difficult to get productive feedback that is beneficial to you. Register at your own discretion

I thought she was thorough, however, I would have liked it if we didn't have five papers due. It just seems excessive.

Very tough grader. When I mean tough I mean TOUGH. Her grading makes no sense because she tells you to look at your syllabus and when you follow what the syllabus sayd she asks you to do more? Her class was not difficult, what made it difficult was the fact that she gives constant busy work. I don't feel like I learned anything valuable.

This class definitely required a lot of work! It kept me busier than all my other courses for sure. Wish she gave more time to finish assignments, especially the final paper. However, she was very passionate about teaching, and I gained a lot of knowledge!

There are a few looong papaers. Get a head start. It really makes a huge difference. Ask for specific clarification. She's helpful. I liked her class

WORST EDFN professor at NEIU, very condescending. too much work, and very hard grader, I have taken EDFN classes before and did not require this type of work. A lot of unnecessary work. I would never take her again or recommend anyone to take this class.

She is a good lecturer and the class does not drag. Her grading is not clear, she puts what she is looking for in the syllabus but is looking for more than what is assigned. She is a very tough grader. She is available for help. Start papers and observations early and read read read.

Yes, the papers are long, but essential. Ask for help and you shall receive. READ THE SYLLABUS all the tools to be successful; don't procrastinate!!!!

This is a class to help you get acquainted with the university. She brings in SO MUCH FOOD. I loved the class so much I applied to be a Peer Instructor for the class. She is also an Academic Advisor for the FCNS majors. She will keep you updated on events going on around campus. She will answer any questions you have about classes and adulthood.

Seriously one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. The final big observational paper turns out to be well over 50 pages long. Learned a lot but she absolutely will tell you to look at your syllabus for everything. Also, don't ex to turn in anything late!

She is a tough grader and professor. Her motto is "it's all in the syllabus" so if you ask questions or are confused, good luck! She is intimidating and her class is extremely demanding. The textbook is expensive but she quizzes out of it so get it or share with another mate. Lots of reading and writing long papers in this course. Stay away!

Dr. Holland is a nice lady but she grades like a tough English teacher. She teaches in a way that forces everyone to listen because everyone has to talk so her lectures are not boring. Textbooks REQUIRED. Frequent quizzes but no exams. 2 presentations. A lot of work outside of the classroom. Very quick in responding to emails.

Professor Holland is amazing. If you are aspiring to becoming a teacher (which I would imagine if you're pursing EDFN courses) then she is an inspiration. Her class is somewhat of a challenge but it only makes you understand child development and classroom concepts better. Holland gives incredible insight and is overall very wise and intelligent.

Unhelpful, unclear, and uncaring. A professor of education should be a proper example for future teachers to follow. Now that I'm in the classroom myself, I learned more from her of what not to do than what to actually do. With two years of hindsight, I never would have taken her class.
