I just wanted to share that Professor Tom Gufrey just CALLED ME (three years after I graduated) to thank me for singing his self-written Chemistry National Anthem for the class. He wished me luck in my career and reminded me that "kindness matters". He truly remembers and cares about every single one of his students! Still in shock.

Tom is amazing! He so so dedicated to Chemistry in which you will see through his demos. He preaches Kindness Matters. Offers A LOT of extra credit but attendance is mandatory if you want to pass. Make sure to go to his office hours for bonus points! Easy A. HIGHLY RECOMMEND even if you dont like Chemistry.

tom is actually the best professor ever. he puts so much effort into his lectures to make them entertaining . even though his class is a large lecture, he still learns everyones name. the class is soo easy to pass, so many bonus points are offered. tom is a really funny guy and always made me laugh every class.

Great professor if you have to take chem100. 3 midterms and you dont have to take the final if you get above 60% on all of them. I knew chem prior and found myself SO bored b/c attendance is mandatory. Expect a fire in every class (seriously)

So so so KIND! do yourself a favor, and take him! lab wasn't the best but if you get above a 60% on all three midterms you can drop the final which is nice. Also, make sure you go to office hours because the bonus points will make or break your grade. Lectures were always so fun to watch! only issue is he gives you way tooooo many handouts

Hands down best professor I've ever had. He loves what he does, and he loves his students. He wants to make chemistry easy and enjoyable for everyone. Every day he does whatever he can to make it funny and exciting. Amazing class. Textbook only used for hw questions (he will rent you textbook). A LOT of extra credit easy A

Tom is indeed a real gem! I was never really a chemistry person, but Tom made chem SO enjoyable and his motto of 'kindness matters' really shines through him. Such a caring, funny, and understanding professor and it's also really easy to get an A with all the extra credit he offers - HE'S AN ABSOLUTE MUST TAKE AT CSULB!

One of the best professors I've had while attending here! He made chemistry so much fun and understandable. I'm not really much of a science person, especially chemistry, but it was pretty do able. I was able to move my grade from a B to an A because he gave me chance and gave me that one extra point I needed! Always show up to class and do the HW!

Absolutely hands down my favorite teacher here at CSULB! I always struggled with Chemistry, but Tom allowed me to find an appreciation for the subject and it's so easy to get an A! If you go to his office hours, you get soo much extra credit for the easiest assignments and he will clarify any questions you have! I love coming to class every Tu/Th!

Tom is by far the best professors I've had at csulb. He really wants everyone to pass the class. if you get better than 60% on all tests and show up to class you get an A. tests are a bit hard because i don't really get chemistry but i still received the A. if you can take Tom do yourself a favor and do, you will get an easy A!

He is such a kind, sweet, and funny man. He provides everything you need to pass the class. He offers bonus points every class meeting. It is really up to you whether you want that A or not. Class is mandatory, but he does demos to make it fun and you get bonuses for showing up. Doesn't post anything online (he's not young so he's old school)

Lectures were the best ever he includes demos, you'll love fire at the end of this course. He does lecture verbally and writes on the board. Get good grades on all exams and you can drop the final. So many ways to get extra credit. The best professor on campus, passionate, funny, and actually teaches in an easy manner. DEFINITELY TAKE!!!

The sweetest and most amazing professor I've ever had. Exams are a little difficult but you have the opportunity to get 100 bonus points to boost your grade overall. Has amazing demos during lecture and is always available for office hours. SO MANY BONUS POINTS! Get them all!

Tom is so inspirational. One of the best professors I've had the chance to take at Long Beach. He's hilarious, offers extra credit. The criteria is hard but he makes it doable. *Must buy the books or else you won't pass. Must go to class. But it's fun when you're there.

he is a great professor that cares about his students passing. he makes class fun and always has an explosion to end the day. he makes class fun and gives a lot of extra credit. the only reason i didn't get an A was because i didn't get 60% on all exams but i still got a B, just because chem is already a hard subject but i learned a lot with him!

Tom is a silly guy, encourages students to stop by office hours, and he loves to end class with a fire. He provides demos for the class and applies the lesson of the day to explain what is happening. He also sells the chemistry book for $20! Make sure to study, chemistry is not learned the day before the exam plus you have a practice exam to study.
