Comment:
Prof. Pugach knows his stuff, and expects that you do too. You will need extensive notes and to have done more than the readings asked of you. He is hard to hear sometimes as he speaks softly sometimes, so sit in the front of the class. He is old school, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but expect to work for a good grade.

Go to class and pay attention. Don't skip the books, you have to write papers on a few of them, I did not read a few of them though because I didn't have time. His class is hard and he tells you that day one, but that good grade at the end feels good because you earned it.

His class is not that bad. Here's how to pass. Go to lecture! He is very repetitive and that helped me eventually absorb the information. Take notes as he goes along, they are good to study for the test. He gives a list of terms you should know for the midterm and final. If you know those youll be fine. Make sure you do the readings and youll be ok

Second time taking him & I enjoyed this class as well. Still gave compelling lectures that gauged my interest. Covered responses to Holocaust & its memorialization, something not very many professors do. However he neglected to cover other minority groups impacted & was unclear on course criteria. Still a very tough grader. Be detailed on all work

Professor Pugach is an awful professor. I would not recommend any of his classes. It has nothing to do with feeling "entitled" to a good grade. I have worked my tail off getting my undergrad and took his Holocaust class because I was interested in the subject. He is unorganized, hard to follow, and has arbitrary grading criteria. Avoid him.

He is not as bad as many people have pointed him out to be. He is a beyond excellent lecturer. I found myself interested most of the semester. A lot of reading but if you stick to the schedule it's manageable. A paper and a book analysis. IDs and essays for the two exams. He is a very tough grader. Need to be very detailed on all work.

His lectures were a little hard to follow. They were interesting lectures and I enjoyed them very much. Reading in the class are interesting but there a lot of reading. You are expected to read about 5 books. The tests were hard and long essays but he makes it fairly easy. study hard!

A hard class, for sure. But worth it. There is a slew of texts to read and a around 5-7 typed pages of notes every class. But he is a brilliant man who has found a way to deliver difficult and complex ideologies and conflicts in a way that makes them clear and concise. A class for the dedicated student.

I resent the implication that I'm a lazy and immature student because I was frustrated by a teacher who assigned an overwhelming amount of reading, was sometimes condescending, and focused on niggling details. Also, "microcosm" isn't quite the word you're looking for in this context.

Comment:
An old school professor who expects his students to actually take a microcosm of responsibility for their own learning. If you pay attention, do the reading, and come to class you will do well. The fact that the 162 students are whining about the difficulty only shows that students coming out of highschool these days are entitled brats.

Read all of the assigned books (History of the Holocaust class). Even if you miss a few classes but keep up with the readings you will do fine, but you must read all of what is assigned. Test come directly from the readings and write down as much as possible. Test are short answer essays and historical significance of words/people/organizations.

Not for the weak of heart. The dude does teach a class on the Holocaust for Christs sakes, he's bound to be a little intense.

I took his Holocaust History class, and as long as you show up to his lectures and take decent notes, you should get a good grade in the class. I highly recommend reading the books he assigns, and the tests will cover them heavily. I got an A in the class, but I really applied myself and did all of the readings.

i took this prof for US for. relat. and in all honesty, it wasn't THAT hard. i had to study quite a bit, but that's cuz i didn't really do the reading. make a study group, and really study the ID list he gives you, all the answers to the essay and everything is in that list. he is a good lecturer, but is quick about it. not a bad guy

over obsessed with minor details i had him in history of the holocaust and the amount of notes we took was ridiculous pages and pages of pointless information and he tells you this is crucial information for your tests then it ends up not being on it. he is very unorganized and somewhat difficult to follow during lectures so be prepared!
