Comment:

Good prof. Relevant material and the prof conveyed information very well. However, he was very unsure of his teachings and if the class understood and wanted us to ask many questions but material was pretty straightforward. The variety between texts and movies which was nice!. Group projects which he marks easy but is critical in his feedback

Comment:

Very hard to understand what he's trying to teach. He's unclear on a lot of things, and often goes off track and repeats the same thing for multiple lectures. I find his lectures pointless to attend, I did not learn anything

okome clearly isn't everyone's cup of tea but i actually felt he was really lenient when it came to due dates. wanted to submit an essay over 2 weeks after its due date and he still accepted it without any sort of deductions. however, his lectures are really pointless and if you don't attend them, you'll miss the due dates.

He is a nice guy, but his lectures were so pointless. He pushed back due dates and he was a slow and tough marker of the few assignments we had. He never clearly explained what exactly we were supposed to do. If you don't want to waste your time, don't take this class.

While his course is very disorganized, his lectures are amazing, assignments are fair, and he is a very genuine person. He knows he's disorganized and gives students plenty of extra time to complete assignments without penalty as a result. He gives great constructive feedback, and class discussions are very interesting! Show up and you'll do well.

Very unorganized. Didn't learn anything and found that attending the class was useless. Assignments were a mess--due dates and what we were actually supposed to do was very unclear.

He is one of the worst prof's I've had. He is not organized at all and I don't feel like I've learned how to write better. He never remembers his own due dates and always ends up pushing them back because he does not teach us the stuff required for it. He does not use eclass so you have to attend to know due dates.

He's a good prof who is genuinely interested in what you have to say, gives great feedback and is super understanding. Good marker and i will for sure take his class again.

He is unprepared constantly but sort of charming in an endearing way. If you take everything he says with a grain of salt you will be just fine. The only problem is that every class is a repetition of the last and class time is used questionably (screening movies, questions) so don't expect to get much out of the class time itself. Well-meaning.

He's a really kind and funny man, which made his classes enjoyable. He's definitely a prof who cares about his students and wants them to enjoy the class. At the same time he can be disorganized. The syllabus was recycled from a previous class so the dates were wrong, and the format was a mess. He's a fair marker though and good teacher.

Comment:

Dr. Okome is a traditional African teacher. He stresses participation and won't let the class sit silently which I appreciate, in the end someone has something to say, they're just afraid. Overall the readings were varied, carried depth, varied in storylines and were enjoyable. A great chance to read African Lit! Would take his class again.

Nice guy, ok prof, spends a lot of time discussing the novels we read and then makes us watch movies on them which was useless, also when he says "be prepared for a discussion" it means be prepared to hear him discuss the book to you while you listen and give no input, wasn't great. Also essay marking wasnt hard but random

I guess he took note of what people were saying earlier because he did not miss any classes except for two where he had to go for a conference. His lectures are informing and pretty engaging. I like how he pushes for participation and group projects. Essay marking was fair, but lacked explanation. He's a good prof. I recommend taking this class.

He didn't seem to enjoy teaching: he was mostly late for class, often didn't show up and lectures were repetitive and hardly mandatory. As with another of the reviews, he never took the time to learn names, it felt as if participation grades were literally picked from a hat. I guess his research must be really good, because his teaching was not

You can he's a nice guy but when you miss 4 classes before September is over it's tough to really like the guy. Not to mention that he's also regularly late and ends class early. He just doesn't care anymore and teachings not his cup of tea. No class discussion and if you want to ask a question you might as well be talking to a wall. Just saying...

He is really nice and funny. I enjoyed him as a person. He is also quite good at explaining topics (usually over-explains it). Not much class discussion, entire class is bascially him talking. Only thing that I found frustrating was his random marking... but he is willing to help ou if you go see him.
