Like someone else here, I took his class in the early 90's. Taking the class in person and doing basic sketch drawings of the slides helps for test reviews. As a result of his class I'm able to better evaluate good museums from lazy ones. I'm also able to view various religious mythos in art from a patrons POV.

The man is hilarious! you gotta take this class in person tho. all of his lectures are a bunch of pictures on a slideshow but he goes in depth of what every painting is and about the artist who painted it. He goes off on rants alot but that makes it very enjoyable. just pay attention and write down what he tells you too and do the work. easy A or B

I loved his class! He always went into depth with each painting and told gave us all really juicy facts behind artists and their paintings.Yes he goes off on rants and talks about his family but I really dont mind when the class is enjoyable.

I've taken him both in-person and online & I HIGHLY recommend that you take him in-person because the online work load is ridiculous. Be forewarned there is ALOT of writing for the online class! He lags in grading your assignments & figuring out what he wants you to write about is difficult. TAKE HIS CLASS IN-PERSON!

I was disappointed with this class. I love photography and this class was looking at photos every class and A LOT of writing. I went to class everyday and did every assignment, but still had no idea what he wanted on the final. Yes I pulled of a C, but that was probably because he liked me. (TAKE ANOTHER TEACHER OF CLASS). good luck.

what the???? Don't know what the class is all about? had to memorize photos and take 1 tests and final. Don't know what he wanted-never taught us anything other than look at pictures and talk about them, and yes I love art and photo. Not the class for someone looking to learn art and photography.

Cool teacher, goes off subject ALOT. I came to learn about art history, not to hear what goes on in his family. 2 midterms and final (gives you the questions AND answers as a 'study guide'), 1 paper and 1 museum visit. Not bad class, just have to get through his rantings.

So far, I have noticed he makes small syntactical insinuations that are patronizing (e.g. he assumes nobody in the class is well traveled or cultured). He continuously rambles about his family and it eventually becomes tacky. He's easy going, though.

He was a very funny professor, I enjoyed being in his class room he let us out early and he is filled with interesting stories. Will cut you a break with assignments and his grading is fair. Overall his class was easy and it was never a bore. I would recommend him!

this was an online class. he was somewhat fast at replying to emails. his assignments are somewhat straightforward. all you should do is write lots and lots--i am not sure if he even reads them. what i love about clarke is that he always offers assignment extensions. whenever in a jam, he would always allow me more time to finish! take this class!

I took Orville's class back in the early 90's. BEST class ever. I have a deeper appreciation for art now. Went to Paris and all his lessons stuck. I look for progressive museums like The Getty Center, because of him. It's hard work, lots of drawing notes to take, he's opinionated, but it's a students job to come up with your own take.

Clarke is one of those college characters that makes you remember your college years with fondness. Everyone should take at last one cl**** from him. By the way, there is a lot of writing and there are museum visit reports and he expects you to learn your periods, artists, and pieces.

The best guy to ever teach Art History, have taken him before for PHoto 1. He's so cool. Very lean back and grasps everyone's attention with his stories, this guy really knows his stuff! Just looked at slides, and write 4 easy lil measly papers! No final...woot!!

This guy is simply hilarious! I love his teaching style, he's so laid back. All of his papers are due whenever. The only thing he asks from the class is to be there for the lecture and to give opinions on the art work. The guy rocks!
