Comment:
Only moderately helpful in workshop discussions, and she does tend to forget to give class instructions or lose papers from time to time. However, Pam's quite approachable and helpful in terms of one-on-one advice. And in terms of subject matter and style, she was actually pretty lenient; perhaps she's lightened up over time.

Pam was awesome. I don't understand the other raters' comments; she was funny, helpful, kind and interesting. I highly recommend a class with her.

201 with Pam is a waste of time. She doesn't care about students, doesn't give any useful comments, and clearly has no business teaching fiction.

Nearly precisely the reason I dropped the major. Since anyone reading this is probably doing so after they got landed with her in the acceptance rounds of a mid-level Creative Writing course, warnings are useless. I can only offer commiseration. Spend class time falling in love with someone.

She definitely does not know how teach poetry. It's difficult to believe that she ever even likes what you write. VERY unhelpful and disorganized.

Comment:
DO NOT take a class with her! She was so disorganized she didn't read the students' work in time for class. Her comments were less helpful than other students'. She was one-dimensional and played favorites. She actually lost my final portfolio and emailed me a week after it was due asking for it again. I'm reconsidering majoring CRWR.

Comment:
She was the most disinterested, one dimensional teacher I've ever had. If you didn't write the way she thought ALL poetry should be like, she'd dismiss you. Never gave me very constructive feedback. Anytime I tried to diverge from pretty, lyrical, epiphany poetry, she shot me down. I felt like she had no faith in me as a writer. AVOID HER!

Write poems about nature, especially birds, and she'll love you. If not you'll get a B+ no matter what you do.

Comment:
Pam is much better one-on-one than in a workshop. She has some oddities (she hates it when you show up earlier than she does, for example) and a preference toward epiphany poetry (noted by another rater below). Nonetheless, her comments were terrifically helpful to developing my poetry thoughout the semester. I highly recommend projects with her.

Comment:
She never GOT anything in poetry; she was very oberlin in her expectations of poetry being one-toned (image image EPIPHANY!). She was totally unavailable outside of workshops, very unclear about her grading, and slow with revisions. Reading selections blew.

Nothing she ever said in workshops helped; I found myself entirely distrustful of her evaluations of peoples works. She 's nice enough, but she's a flake.
