Im in John Longs Math 110 class this semester, and its the hardest class ever. He sets you up for failure by using the mymathlab. Even if you put the right answer in on a test youll still get the wrong answer, because you have to put it in some exact way. I should have a B in this class, but cause of this Im failing.

Comment:

The lectures on the material weren't always clear but Youtube and asking him questions after class definitely helped. He also offered extra credit. Tests are much easier if you actually do your homework!

Comment:

I took Professor Long for Calc 2, 3, and 4. He is, in my opinion, one of the best professors at Midlands. He will help you, whether it is in class or during office hours, with anything that you are struggling with; he will even explain basic arithmetic if that's what you need. Attempt the homework, ask questions, and get involved and you'll pass.

I really love Mr. Long as a person but his calculus 3 class was very hard. I went to class and ignored him for the most part because he confused me and went home and watched YouTube videos to help me. His tests were hand written and photocopied and his practice tests didnt always help with the real test.

LOVE this guy. He is a fantastic man. Very easy to get along with and truly loves teaching math. He constantly is popping simple, stupid (but kinda funny) jokes. He relates a lot of material to things more common in students' lives to help them understand. Really enjoyed this class.

He was very inconsistent with his lectures and class work. Most of the time, his homework would never match up with what he was actively teaching while in class. He does offer different ways to reach him outside of class for extra help, but not for very long. I would not recommend taking this course unless you are good at math and self-teach.

This is hands down the worst math teacher I've ever had. he is inconsistent and I often am confused what we are even learning. His teaching style is horrible. if you are not good at math do not take him!

Mr. Long is awesome He is a very funny man and definitely gets your attention in class. However learning Trigonometry is not easy at first but he helps you grasp the concepts and if your grade is higher on the final exam than it is in class then he changes it for you. Very helpful just pay attention and do homework

John Long is a pretty good teacher as long as you are willing to learn. Don't expect a good grade if you don't want to put any work into the class. He is always willing to help and explain things in any way he can. Before a test, ask him for a practice test and he will give you one that is relatively similar to the actual test.

He isn't the best at explaining things. I basically taught myself calculus 1 because his teaching style is confusing. If you have no calculus background I wouldn't advise taking him.

Comment:

Great guy, willing to help in any way possible, albeit meeting before class, staying late after class, office hours, he's there if you need him. Does have the tendency to ramble and go off on tangents about non-related things(i.e. fishing), but overall great guy. For a tough subject Calc III, he really made it easy. Do the hw and you'll be fine.

Very nice man and helpful. If no prior math is taken, this would be a hard class for you. HW questions differ from ones one test & moves fast even if half of the class misunderstands. I made a C (thanks to him), but if any other maths is needed in the longrun, id be completely lost! Good for people good with math!

This professor likes to constantly move back and forth within the chapters so it gets very confusing. He also likes to phrase the test questions differently then the hw questions or any of his practice test questions. I would not recommend that anyone that isn't 100% good in math takes this man.

Comment:

Took Differential Equations from him many years ago. Greate guy and will teach at whatever level you need. He is willing to back all the way up to add/subtract if you need him to (but you shouldn't). Not many teachers can teach this subject well and he did a great job and has an excellent reputation amongst the students that have taken his classes.

He is a great teacher and one of the nicest people I have ever met. The first few weeks of class were weird and he was very off topic but after that he buckled down and we really learned a lot. His tests are pretty easy but you must do the homework for each section to understand it. Very reasonable with his grading policy also.

very helpful you can ask him any question any time and he will answer you. as long as you make and honest effort he will help you. he will let you retake any test. also if you want you can go to his office and do the hw right there and he will answer every single question that you have. best teacher hands down

Great teacher. Hard to follow at times but he will back track to make things clear. Hands down, one of the best teachers at Beltline.
