With being a music person, I thought that I was going to really like this class a lot. But no. I dreaded this class so much. Its because of her. She makes you attend 2 required concerts, then just puts a check on them. Doesn't give you a actual letter grade on the. Which the paper is a lot of work.

I would take 500 math classes before ever signing up for this class. Unless you have an extensive knowledge of world music, RUN! There is a quiz or test every other class, and if you miss (or just find it painfully boring like i did) you're screwed. She moves extremely quick and expects you to have a full music background when beginning.

Had her for Music as a World Phenomenon. Class is all about non-western music. Even if you don't know anything about music, as long as you try, you'll do well. The tests consist of listening, slide recognition, multiple choice, and true/false. She always gives extra credit on the tests. You must also attend a concert and write a paper about it.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. The teacher thought everyone taking the class centered their world around music (from many years ago) Written papers were poorly graded...almost seemed as if she never read them. she took too long to grade papers and blew up on us for asking when they would be graded.

Music as World Phenomenon - Class easy as long as some effort is put forth. Test on listening, slide recognition, MC and TF. Attendance to a concert and paper mandatory. Final Mandatory.

Great class! Yes, tests are hard, but lots of extra credit possibilites. Class is real organized and NOT boring, she is also friendly and accomodating. That other person probably flunked because they didn't study or pay attention.

ok this class by olssen isn't that bad. however, she thinks everyone comes in there a music genius which of course is not the case. shes also not very sociable. the tests are hard..MEMORIZE the book (youll sleep in class) and youll do fine.
