I really don't have anything good to say about this professor. His lectures are long and boring. I feel he does not care much about his students. Must go to music concerts and write essay after concert, homework is easy. Frequent quizzes, make sure to write good notes. There are 3 parts to the exam. Multiple choice, essay, and listening assignment.

Comment:

Good music professor. Goes very in depth to make sure students fully understand what he's talking about. There can be a bit of homework but he usually helps out with some parts of it. Funny guy, definitely recommend! :)

TH BEST. Hilarious nice and fun. Gives good amount of homework. no presentations. good conversations. Quizzes are fairly easy, make sure to study and do all homework! No specific due date on homework, he allows you to take your time on it as long as you turn it in before final.

Mr. Aranda was a great teacher funny and very talented . Very straight forward and gave great lectures. He gave us study guides of exactly what was on the tests so if you actually study there's no reason you shouldn't pass the class. Ear training is not too hard if you practice. Must study and must practice, but that's why you go to college right?

Prof Aranda's class was very interesting,he teaches us about A LOT of musical pieces and composers. Take detailed notes on all his PPT slides. Quizzes are weekly, only 2 exams, & you must go to 2 classical music concerts. He's patient, reasonable, & has lots of experience in music. HW is mostly listening assignments, hardly used the online textbook

His grading criteria are not clear and he usually changes the rules on his tests. He once told us "Name the composer OR time period of the song to get full credit." But he will mark you wrong if you dont know the composer of certain songs he believes "you should know." As you can see, his grading standards are VERY subjective. Be cautious.

The class is kind of boring but that depends on what music you're into and if you're willing to listen to classical music lectures. You'll learn a lot musically. Have to attend class or you probably wont pass. The class is easy but you have to go to Concerts in order to pass. Nice guy and is passionate about music.

Loves music, and is very involved in it outside of simply teaching. I took history of jazz and it was pretty straightforward, his quizzes and exams are taken straight out of the notes he gives, so you really have no reason to fail. Plays a lot of piano and uses a lot of videos to teach. Not a bad elective to take.

I have a music background and I thought I'd give the class a chance..Ehhh at best. He's a good teacher, great knowledge of music, but if you do not have good listening to classical music, then start before you even step foot in the class!!! Music Appreciation is exactly that, at the end you'll start to appreciate it like I did. Tons of extra credit

I think this teacher is a show off all he does is show off what he can do instead of teaching his class believe me your grade is based off midterm and Final he says he would pass you if u do homework and show up don't be tricked you won't, You need to have great ear training skills and i basically taught myself in the class one word BAD TEACHER!

I took the History of Jazz. It was not my sort of music to begin with, but Mr. Aranda made it very interesting. I loved this class. The quizzes & listening assignments were easy. The Mid & Final exam was not hard at all, as long as you studied your notes from the PowerPoint slides. He offered many chances 4 extra credit. I got an 'A' Great Teacher!

Professor Aranda is a great teacher!!! You do have to study quite a bit, but it is not hard at all. If you want to broden your skills musically take this Music 1 class. I will truely miss this class cuz I loved learning more abt music.
