Learned a lot from this course! Well structured and engaging lectures. Not a lot of reading compared to my other courses. Participation is mandatory. Final is a 20 pg paper (you work on it all semester). My TA was a super easy grader so it was no big deal and you build upon it each time. Super cool guy.

Was a fine teacher that knew what he was talking. Inspirational? Not necessarily but I'm not a big history person. Maybe he'd be inspirational to someone who loves history though.

Professor Kelton was awesome, he gave well structured and informative lectures. He respected everyone's opinion in class. The paper people seem to be upset about is nothing. 20 pages of work over the course of a semester isn't difficult. It's just four, five papers. More than appropriate for the level. Everything else depends on your TA.

The lectures are long and thoroughly unengaging. If you like a professor who rambles and shows video every class, then this might be a good fit for you. I think expecting a 20 page paper from a 300 level class is not quite appropriate

Very boring and repetitive. Whole class is on the depressing side. Main point of class is to show up, read, wright long uninspired paper.

One of the best professors I've had in my time at KU. I was only mildly interested in the subject before the class, now I would like to make it part of my research. He speaks a little too fast at times, but was almost always very clear and engaging and was even quite funny at times. I would definitely take more classes from him.

Such a boring lecturer! Lectures were confusing and far from engaging. Really interesting information but not coming from this teacher.

Professor Kelton is an excellent teacher who provides very captivating lectures and keeps you interested. He is very respectful of students, but you do have to work very hard for an A in the class. I would definitely take him again, but I am a Computer Engineering major and will likely never take another history class again so...

Solid Professor. Always arrives early & prepared with an organized & well-structured lecture. Good at summarizing & highlighting important features of complicated historical events, getting students to think critically & to question preconceived myths, & putting history into context. Attendance mandatory (recorded using clickers). TA's easy graders

Attendance is madatory. Most of the grading is done by his teaching assistants. Really is a JA about academic misconduct, and wont let anything fly so dont try. Boring, and annoying to listen to. But easy

Kelton was a great professor! He really knows the subject and cares a lot about it. He clears up a lot of historical inaccuracies you probably learned in high school. His 3 tests (including the final) are easy, just identifying 10 vocab words. The 3 essays are ok, I didn't read the books and got A,A,B+ on them. Easy class, good professor, take it!

He has a nice sense of humor and specializes in indigenous life so it starts out with a lot of native American info then gets into the revolution. Interesting class

Easy class, lectures were fairly interesting but mandatory. A lot of people on here say lecture is pointless but if you take good notes he practically writes your papers for you.

Took Senior seminar course with Kelton. He made it clear what was expected of each student, answered emails quickly, has really made a scary-heinous class not so bad. He obviously knows his stuff and has really great hints on how to write better historical papers. Great guy.

Kelton was nice, but his GTAs were awful. He would take attendance, but it was easy to get around not going. I love history, but anything in lecture didn't pertain to out grade. If you like not taking tests, take this class. We just wrote papers.

"FIRE UP YOUR CLICKERS" his go to line every lecture.. attendence in lecture is mandatory due to clickers. Cant use what he says in lecture on your papers. GTA's monitor everything and try to police in budig 120. Almost everyday Kelton would stop lecture to comment on how rude it was to talk during class, blah blah blah. harder level 100 class
