Funny, Passionate, and cares for his students, but unfortunately his classes can be much harder than they should be. His Animal Communications class has 2 exams and each exam is 40% of your final grade. Both exams require so much preparation it just is just not worth it. He can get a little all over the place and is a harsh grader. Be ready to work

Such a nice guy, but terrible teacher. Only based off 2 tests, a paper, and pop-quizzes. That whole time I did not know if I was failing or passing. If you can find a better teacher-please do, I do not know how I got the grade I did.

This was by far the hardest class I took my freshman year. His lectures are incredibly dull, the slides are cluttered with paragraphs of information, and he speaks very quietly. About 70% of the information taught in the lectures never show up again anywhere in the class (on a test, quiz, etc). He has good study guides and is a nice guy, though.

Let me paint a picture: I started a groupchat in this class thinking this would be hard NOPE, he posts the lectures online, takes ALL test material from said lecture slides and drones incessantly during lecture, with SO many tangents might I add, literally a majority of us came only to chat with each other over the groupchat, Easy A, no problem

Dr. Assmann is passionate and knowledgeable about the material that he teaches. You can make an A if you come to class and pay attention. His slides alone won't help on tests, though. You have to write down what he says in class. You don't have to read a book for the term paper, either. I didn't and I did well. GO TO TA REVIEW SESSIONS.

This class is just boring in general and so ridiculously difficult. Imagine cramming every lecture notes to your brain because you really HAVE TO KNOW EVERYTHING for the the exam. He's really nice and knows the subject well, but he didn't know how to make the lives of students who were required to take this course less stressful.

Very difficult class. Good luck to anyone taking it. I know it is a very boring class anyone entertaining could teach it and it would still be boring. Exams are extremely difficult. There is little multiple choice. There is just SO MUCH to memorize. You also have to choose a book out of 3 or 4 that you must read and write a paper about. GOOD LUCK!!

Prof Assmann is the most kind and humble professors. His lectures get heavy and boring at times. However, one won't regret attending his class.

People complain about him a lot but honestly, he isn't bad. I think it is just the fact that he talks low & the subject is boring in general. He is extremely caring & the CUTEST OLD MAN. He is always smiling while he lectures because he truly loves the material. Do the review and study for pop quizzes and you'll be ok. Dont get the textbook.

Long and dull lectures, one question pop-quizes given at his discretion, two insanely detailed tests that make up 80% of your grade. For the final i had 35 pages of notes. He scrambles his words ALOT and is extremely hard to hear so dont sit in the bck Half the class was usually asleep or on their phones. Would not recommend this class whatsoever

He is so quiet! You cannot hear him. Although he is really passionate about the topic, he rambles on and makes it extremely difficult to pay attention in class. There are occasionally one question pop quizzes, but the rest is just long lectures. Some students get really into it and are passionate about the subject too, but that is really rare

Lectures are long and dreadful but Prof Assmann is a sweet guy who loves his job. Our grade was made up of 2 exams, a paper and some quizzes. He is a bit all over the place but if you do his reviews top to bottom, you should be fine. I did poorly on the midterm and it badly impacted my grade so be careful.

This is literally the best class you will ever take and my absolute favorite class in my academic career. Peter Assmann isn't your usual professor in the sense that he lets you show what you're good at and what you know. After a very in depth review highlighting all possible exam topics, he lets you pick a certain amount of questions to be graded.

It's a lot of information and that can be exceptionally tough but Dr. Assman was wonderful. He is passionate about what he teaches and it's contagious! He is a bit quiet so do sit in the front and try to learn! Love him!

Great professor, very soft spoken, gives quizzes almost every class period, tests are easy if you study the material from the study guide, very flexible too and will work with you if some emergency comes up.

Professor Assmann is passionate about this course. Posts lectures online, no need to read textbook. He is very soft spoken so try to get a seat near the front. Only 1 midterm, 7-8 page midterm paper based one of 3 books he assigns, and final. Attendance required for quizzes worth 1 or 2 points each (we had 7 for summer semester)

Do yourself a favor and just get out. He grades are horrible, his lectures are boring and unclear, his TA's are rude and unhelpful. Better yet, just get out of UTD -- it's awful!

His animal communication class made me switch schools and majors. He stutters constantly and is all over the place with his lectures. For his tests he wants the exact wording that was on the power point. If you say "find" instead of "locate" he will count wrong. Asked for help and he told me to try harder.

I honestly could not pay attention at all in his class. Super boring, repeats himself alot and could barely hear half the time. we had a mid term, final, and random quizzes that were one question and essay homework assignments. waaaay too much effort for this type of class.
