Comment:

Medine is a fossil. The man is a brilliant orator. No questions. But he is a classic example of the type professor that has his answer in-mind already to every question he asks, and if you can't guess what it is, you will be ignored in class, destroyed on your essays, and will not do well in the class.

Comment:

Extremely knowledgeable professor. I took "Shakespeare" & although I attended every class & did every reading, I received a C. Unfortunately, your entire grade depends on the 3 exams he gives over the course of the semester. No assignments are given. I enjoyed the class, but not my final grade, & not hauling the 10-pound book to every class.

I've taken Medine twice now and I regret it immensely. I assumed the first class I took with him, I did poorly because I wasn't interested. This time I realized it's just because he grades based on whether he agrees with your analysis, not on its soundness. He repeats himself a lot and I don't learn much. I wouldn't take him if I were you.

Comment:

Medine is an excellent speaker, one of the best lecturers I have ever had at the U. He's richly intelligent and but he cracks witty jokes in class that made me laugh frequently. He's a tough grader, yes, but he allows you to rewrite papers for an average of the two grades and he gives understandable comments on the papers. TAKE MEDINE IF YOU CAN!

Comment:

Excellent orator! Prof. Medine is sharp, quick-witted, and readily available for questions and discussion. He is knowledgeable, helpful, and has high expectations. Take notes, ask questions, visit his office hours, and read the work(s)! He is a difficult grader, but his classes are well-worth taking. Medine is beyond being an excellent prof!!

Comment:

I took Professor Medine's Lit class (one of them) in the Spring of 1995. He droned all through class and could be witty. He wasn't a bad teacher but yes he graded your papers tough. He's a good cat. I remember him saying, "God Save us from the term, literally... "(As in I was literally starving....) used in hyperbolie.

Comment:

He can be funny at times but really, he's just an auditory version of spraknotes! You'll learn everything, if anything, through summaries; no analysis at all. He gave me a 65% on a paper for one run-on sentence & a quote he didn't understand w/ notes on how to improve. He does let you re-do papers for the difference but he's not an easy grader!

Dr. Medine takes a little getting used to, but once I did, and understood his expectations, he was extremely helpful, and even became a mentor. He expects you to take good notes on the lectures and the text, but his grading is easy provided you give it your best effort. I have taken three courses with Medine and have learned a great deal.

Funny guy. He grades harshly but go visit him during office hours and he'll tell you exactly what to change in your papers. He's eccentric and very bizarre, but everyone loves how humorous he is. Take the class.

The only legitimate criticism one can offer of Medine is that he grades harshly. It's certainly not impossible to get a high grade in his classes, especially since he gives you the oppurtunity to re-write your papers. The guy is challenging, and he'll make you work, but that's the mark of a good professor. You actually end up learning!

this class is a lot of work, and each essay is only one page-which makes it soo much harder. go in and talk to him before you turn it in. he is a really nice man and very very smart. i now have a greater appreciation for shakespeare!!
