Took for a GE history credit for Fall 2018. Easy class & I would take it again due to the lack of assignments. Although the class is very boring and you aren't allowed on your phone or computer, just stay awake. I wish all of my classes were like this one, 1 take home test & 3 easy papers. I am not a history person or good at writing & I did good.

If you're a history major and you're looking to get a real solid intro to writing history papers and a 3-week mini-lesson on how to be a historian, take Piccione! If not, even if you like history as I do, Piccione is not worth it. His assignments are too much for a 100-level class and he doesn't do nearly enough to explain them. For real, y'all.

Comment:
Dr. Piccione is very passionate about ancient history, and I respect that, but his method of teaching is disorganized, nonsensical, and entirely ineffective. The lectures are not lectures. He's just talking to himself. It's a 100 level gen ed but he treats it like a more advanced class. Write the paper early and don't fall asleep, you'll be fine.

Comment:
Piccione is a great guy; he's funny and he means well and plays cool music. But often he will go off on tangents that are not relevant to the topic, and his lectures have no format. I like history, but I never felt like we were learning anything through the lectures. There are a couple of major paper assignments, though the final paper counts most.

Professor Piccione was my professor freshman year. I dont remember my grade in the class, but I enjoyed it enough that I continued to take more history classes at the College as electives. When deciding on a major, I thought about the class that most inspired me, and it was Picciones. He is passionate about what he does, especially Egyptology.

I'm not even done with this class, I'm five weeks in and I can't stand it. This man goes off on random tangents and I literally I have no idea how he plans to relate it to what we're supposed to know for the course. I never know what's going on and it just doesn't seem like there's a big picture we're working towards he is just talking to himself.

He was pretty lecture heavy, but you only have four grades and three of them are easy As if you follow instructions. None of the assignments are done in class and if you like pre-modern history it is really insightful and fun. He can be old-fashioned and no tech allowed, but other than that it was an easy class.

Professor Piccione is very smart but his lectures are super long. The first assignments you turn in you will feel super discouraged but if you put in the effort to go to class and talk to him he will make note of it. All assignments are take-home but that does not mean easy A.

Professor Piccione is a great teacher, people just misunderstand him. If you put the time into the class and go to his office hours you will more than likely get a good grade in the class.

Lectures are very long, but he's full of knowledge and loves to talk (a bit too much). Once you figure out what he wants, then he is a pretty easy grader. Just make sure that you're willing to put the time into his classes, and you'll be fine.

Lectures are long and boring, emphasis very long and very boring. No tests which is nice but the assignments are nearly impossible to get good grades on and the research paper is incredibly difficult and instructions are not clear

He means really well and people misunderstand him. He loves to teach people and you can tell he has a lot of knowledge, he just doesn't like to teach with the syllabus, that is all. You barley have any grades and he is an easy grader. I think over-all he is a good teacher and means well, just isn't good when it comes to syllabus teaching

I want to be thrilled that I get to take a class from one of the leading Egyptologists in the world, but he honestly needs to stay in the pyramids and out of the classroom. He's terribly disorganized, late every day, and don't dare ask him a question because he'll go on tangents until you're weeks behind in the syllabus. Nice guy, awful professor.

Lectures way too much, don't take a 3 hour 1 day a week class and have him as a professor. Never lets you out early (even if its 3 hours) and its midterm week and we still haven't gotten a single grade. We have done 3 papers and he hasn't graded a single one. Lectures so much and goes on random tangents about stupid stuff. Would not recommend.

He might be a little scatter brained but he is very smart and if you put in just a little effort you'll be fine. He's really helpful if you go to him and he's very nice. He's a fair grader and he gives extra credit.

Very enthusiastic and intellectual guy. May not be the best teacher, has good days and bad days in terms of teaching. Very scattered brained and writes little "notes" all over the class. If you are an A+ or B+ student then an okay professor to take. WARNING: If you are not good student, then DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR. READING^

Read, go to class, and go to his office hours. I got a B+, and that was all I did. It's not rocket science, just actually try.

Most stressful class I have taken. He expects a lot from his class that we simply do not have (ie, we are not egyptologists). Need to do a paper that requires a lot of research. Will say that he is very enthusiastic and I learned a lot. At the same time, do not take this class. Just don't.

I took Piccione for Pre-modern history 115 and it was awful! In the syllabus it outlined 3 take home assignments that were to be given throughout the course of the semester however these were never sent out. This gave our class only 2-3 grades for the ENTIRE semester, one being a huge paper on material that was never lectured on.
