Comment:
I have had the good fortune to have Barry as my advisor during my undergraduate work as a history major, as well as work with him in two classes and part of my thesis in the MLS program. His dedication to teaching and his students has never been in doubt. And for those of you in the Humanities major, he's the reason it's there in the first place.

Dr. Levis is awesome! He is funny and extremely sarcastic! He'll tease students, but he can also take - very fun to have a conversation with. He know his stuff and is impressed by those who knows theirs too. Expects you to do the reading and don't procrastinate on essays! Very willing to work outside of class and is a fair grader. Good experience!

Comment:
Class was taught by two professors whose classes merged for lecture. First half of semester was very interesting, but both professors seemed to lose interest after midterm. Class became very disorganized. Professors contradicted each other. Dr. Levis is very interesting and knows his history. He is a tough grader.

Some of the comments here are hilarious. Yes, Barry is arrogant and imperious at times, but he has a sense of humor about himself and you can joke with him. His classes do require a lot of work, because he believes you need to read and write and think clearly. He works you and you feel as if you're earned your grade.

The hardest professor I have ever had, yet the one I have enjoyed the most. I have never worked so hard and been more proud of earning a B. We need more professors like Levis.

Because of Dr. Levis I am a better writer, student, and human being. The example he has shown during my time in his class epitomizes what a good professor should be.

Comment:
Dr. Levis would be amused by some of these comments. He's the hardest professor I've ever had, but he's reasonable. He shows you how to use all the tools you need to succeed, but expects you to truly put forth effort. His grading reflects that. I suggest those who hate him grow up and appreciate a professor who wants students to actually learn.

I agree, some of the comments on here are completely uncalled for. I attended Dr. Levis's classes in 2002-2004 and he is a wonderful professor. He is tough, but only in that he truly expects his students to excell. If you show up, read the textbooks and do your work, you will receive the grade you deserve. He is fair and respectfull.

Levis is tough, yes, but college shouldn't be a friggin cake walk. I had been prepped for his acerbic personality and intensive criticsm and wanted to take his course DESPITE the warning becaue I appreciate a Prof that expects your best. If you ask me, way to many folks get A's they never in a million years deserved and Rollins, a supposed institue

I'm serious about every class I take and Dr. Levis sets the bar on what you should expect from yourself. He's hard to get a handle on, but I've never disagreed with a grade he's given. In fact, I'm taking him again. It's not that he asks for the impossible, he just opens the doors to the possibilities you never thought to explore.

This man is a disgrace to the profession. He HATES his students and does NOT want them to succeed. He enjoys seeing his students fail and will do anything in his power to watch them fail. Avoid this man. He will not only publicly go out of his way to humiliate you, but will hurt your GPA, all the while laughing his head off.

This professor put me through the most rigourous course load of my life when I was at Rollins 10 years ago. But he remains one of my favorite people. He made me a better thinker, writer, and historian. Yes, his classes are hell, but you'll respect the grade you get.

Contrary to other reviews, I loved this man! It was one of the hardest courses I've taken and I studied for hours for the exams, but it was worth it. I became a better writer and I thank him for that. Will help you if you ask. Don't take his cynicism for rudeness. I valued that course and thru hard work, I walked away with an A. Recommend!!

Horrible professor. I asked for an extention on a paper and was given one, but later received low marks on it for being late after being told there would be no deduction because of my illness. There are too many good professors at Rollins College to waste one's time taking a class from him.

If not for Levis, I would not be a published author, would not understand grammar, would not have a scholarship, would not understand hard work, would not have any hope for the system of American education. The man is like God, you must meet him halfway to get what you want.
