This class exactly represent what you expect in a third-year level psych. class: A LOT of material to memorize and understand in a short period of time. Materials r based on research components. To have a good grade it's very important to understand the paradigm and the results of the presented research. I highly recomand doing the extra credit wor

Such an interesting class. Prof is very knowledgeable and invested in human memory. I found him very personable and funny. Loved his lecture style. Super dead-pan and sarcastic. Tests mostly on studies so if you familiarize yourself with the studies he goes through and understand main findings/why they are important you will crush this class.

Dr. Brown speaks in a low monotone that makes it easy to stop paying attention, but if you can avoid losing interest he is very funny! Some questions from the text come up on the exams, but not many. I didn't crack the textbook and managed to finish with a good grade. Do the extra credits, they're super easy and can bump you up 4%.

Great class! Topics were interesting and powerpoints were sufficient as study notes. Generous extra credit and fair exams. Funny guy too. Thanks Dr. Brown!

405 was a very easy class, and Dr. Brown is super funny if you listen. He can be a bit monotone but if you're paying attention you should do well. Tests were just simple memorization from the notes. The notes are essentially a compilation of summaries of primary literature that he assigns, but you don't truly need to read it all to do well.

prof was so funny he uses his monotone voice for humor his slides were easy to follow and not many notes. there was quizzes every week but they arent too bad, only that you get only 12 mins, just read the assigned papers. two tests non accumulative. and extra credit work if you want. this was applied cog.

Never again would I take a class with Dr. Brown. I gave his difficulty a 4 only because the material isn't hard, he just grades in the most abstract nonsensical fashion ever. This class focused on studies from so long ago it's outdated, and since it is a 400 level, you would have to ignore everything learned previously to do well. Don't recommend.

Gives two midterms and a cumulative final. The second midterm is a week before the final so you are well prepared. Important to go to his class and take notes. If you listen to him classes fly by. Also, allows 4 extra credit assignments for up to 4% added to you final grade!

Definitely avoid taking this class if you think it'll be an interesting way to learn about memory. The written portion of the exams leaves no room for interpretation- if you deviate from his answer key by even wording something different than he wants, you won't be getting the mark.'

Professor Brown's personality is what made this class for me. He's got a great sense of humor and is an Oiler's fan, so if either of those match up for you, you'll enjoy being in his class. He covers the majority of test material in class so study his lecture notes thoroughly and you should be fine.

This was the worst Psychology class I've ever taken. All the class entails is learning an experimenter's name and the study they did, then reading graphs of the results. His tests are unfair in that he requires you to remember everything a random Psychologist did in their study and describe it in great detail by memorizing what he says

He places lots of emphasis on interpreting data and understanding the relevance of research to theory. Norman does a great job of walking students through how to think about and conceptualize scientific research. His speech is kind of dull; if you're not paying attention, he may put you to sleep. However, dude is hilarious if you listen closely.

If you don't pay attention in class, he sounds utterly monotonous and boring. If you do pay attention, you'll catch on to his jokes, and he makes a lot of them.

I really liked Dr.Brown even though I felt the class itself seemed boring and dry.If you listen carefully he is actually really funny and along with his TA very helpful. If you wanna get a god grade MAKE SURE to do his extra credit assignments and read his own research articles. He is very smart guy and personally I have learned a lot from him!

Norman is a really great guy. Yes, he has a very dry sense of humor, but if you pay the least bit of attention, you'll benefit from it rather than fall asleep from the monotony. Pay attention(most of the time), read the papers, do all the assignments and you will do very well.

He would be an interesting guy outside of class but in the class he turns on the projector, turns off all of the lights and shuts the blinds...sleep just happens. Boring material, dry and monotone voice... there are many other psychology classes to take

I would advise anyone to avoid taking a course with him. I went to next to no classes, just because he was unbelievably dry and boring. His exams were more about the numbers in research then the theories that they covered and he took forever to get test results back.

I do not recommend this prof! Questions on exams are on useless data from experiments. Rarely focuses on concepts! He is so dry and dull, and he knows it. Not at all motivating. Memorizing studies for the who and what are more important than the results and implications!

interesting experience as an independent research course, but do not believe a word when your told that "if you go above and beyond the call of duty you will get an A+". Does not define what constitutes "above and beyond". You can coast to a B+ but thats the Min grade handed out. Dont bother trying to earn that A cause it wont happen.

Of all the profs I've ever had, Brown is probably the smartest of them all; he knows what he's talking about! He pulls a few of the exam questions from the textbook, but most are from his lectures. Overall though, if you're an active learner in his class, not only will you catch all the subtle joke he makes, but you should also do well.
