She is such a sweet and helpful woman. The beginning of FYS seemed impossible, I questioned what I even got myself into. Don't be surprised if you get lower grades than you're used to at first. Towards the end of the semester she starts grading hella easier. I absolutely loved how close our class was. The group projects were enjoyable! 10/10!! :)

The absolute WORST professor I have ever had. She's nitpicky and wants essays written the way she wants them to. She doesn't help you outside of class or check her email bc of how busy she is. She expects you to read a whole book in the span of a week but we never talk about it in class. DO NOT take her classes if you want a good gpa.

Dr. Mulvaney is a very sweet professor. While she is busy, she is always willing to help. The class itself is more difficult as it is an honors class, but it is nothing too unmanageable. There is a lot of reading in this class and attendance is mandatory. There are also many papers, so be prepared to do a lot of work.

She is much to subjective in her grading. She honestly takes points off of an essay for not using the word choice she would've used. She is hard to meet with and way to busy. Many things done in the class are not what I signed up for, and she expects that you can pay and make your way around Chicago on your own with little assistance

The best parts of FYS were the field trips and people. Lectures were long because she loves to talk, and there's a LOT of reading. I like Dr. Mulvaney as a person, but I wouldn't recommend her as an adviser. I'm glad I didn't follow her advice. But I think she grades fairly and is pretty easy to please.

Dr. Mulvaney is an extremely thoughtful, dedicated and helpful professor. In this, a senior-level class, her expectation is for you to accept responsibility for your assignments, to communicate openly and helpfully inside the classroom, and to act professionally on-site at your internship. Since this is a capstone, expect to earn your grade.

She's a very nice lady, but she NEVER stops talking. The class was taught by her and another teacher, and the other teacher would raise her hand to speak in class. She likes people who speak up and participate. You don't really need to read the books, but if you want an A, go to class.

I took Exploring Chicago. She is IMPOSSIBLE to please on an essay or group presentation. She never posts grades, so have fun guessing. She is very nice and knows a lot about Chicago, which makes her grading even more harsh. The textbook is extremely dull. The novels were cool. Don't take this class if you aren't ready to bust your brains out.

I took Exploring Chicago with Mulvaney and Laura Wilmarth-Tyna. Field trips were the best part, but classes didn't seem very helpful. I like Mulvaney a lot more outside of class than in class. She has high expectations, so don't expect to blow off her class.

Horrible as a teacher AND as an adviser. She cost me an entire semester b/c she recommended I take the F in 2 classes. After I changed advisers, no one could understand why she would say that... HIGHLY unorganized. Starts classes and meetings late and keeps you late. Assigns too much work w/o ample time to finish it. DO NOT take her!!
