Comment:

Very nice and caring guy, but the class overall is fairly difficult. Lectures are pointless because you can just look at slides he provides on own time. 4 midterms, 3 count for grade (60%), plus final (40%). If you work very hard you just might get a B. For a GE is pretty difficult.

Comment:

This class wasn't the hardest thing in the world but it could get stressful. His lectures are super boring as he just teaches from the slides. There are 4 midterms and a final, and the lowest midterm is dropped. He curves each exam and 90-100 is an A. Grading is lenient but his tests were hard as the material was not what I studied for.

Comment:

Overall, I thought this was an easy class but others did not. If you study the material from lectures and the study guide Professor Pradhan gives you, you will get As on all the exams. There are 4 midterms (drop the lowest) and one final in the class. No other grades. Also, the textbook is a waste of money because its not needed.

Comment:

Very very bad professor. Too smart to teach a class. Makes it hard on his students by not using Carmen. The study guide is 20% of what is on the exams. I would take any class at Ohio State over his class.

Comment:

Cannot stress enough how much I hated this class. He gave us four midterms, one was the last class before the final. He consistently ridiculed us for not paying attention to the "astronomy news" and his lectures were unbelievably boring. You really do need to study for his exams. Don't try going to his office hours, either, he doesn't show up.

Prof. Pradhan's class wasn't particularly hard-- his lectures were just terribly long and often unimportant. Every exam you could study for off his study guide that he creates and get at least an 80%. Either read the text or go to class, do not do both. He is a very smart individual with high expectations for his students.

What I read on here scared me as a first year freshman about this class, but it was so easy. Maybe because it was my first year and I went to every class and took good notes but the test were verbatim from the lectures. Would speed through the test even though some people struggled. All memorization.

Comment:

The professor's too smart to teach, and don't expect him to offer any help. It's a GE course, yet it felt like he was teaching to astronomy majors. The 4 tests and the final are very difficult if you don't study for hours. No mandatory reading, but tbh you'll understand the lessons better if you read. I wish the author was the professor.

Comment:

Worst teacher of all time. I am not joking when I say less than half of what he teaches/on the study guide ends up on the tests. You go to his lecture twice a week and he just rambles about nothing that he'll actually test you on. He's one of those guys who is just too smart to teach. Your GPA will suffer. Definitely avoid any class with this man.

This was the hardest class I've taken. Before the first class he says his tests are easy, DON'T LISTEN, the average grade was around a 50% but he does drop the lowest. Take any other physical science credit. He was a nice guy but the tests were way too hard. I had a 4.0 until this class. I had to study about 20 hours for exams and still got a B+.

For a gen-ed, the class is unnecessarily hard. It is lecture heavy and the quizzes are composed of specific details that he barely discusses in class.

Lectures are just powerpoints every single class which are accessible so no real need to go every day. 4 midterms drop the lowest one and then a big final are all of your grades. Even though attendance not mandatory, I still went to every single one and the tests all have a ton of questions that are asking you about things he never even mentions

Comment:

If your looking for an easy ge class, do not take this one. Exams are very lecture heavy so be prepared to write down everything he says. Slightly thick accent, tends to ramble. He does curve, but if averages are higher than he expects he will make tests harder throughout course.

Comment:

Anil is very smart and is enthralled by astronomy. Accent is not difficult to decipher at all. Make sure to attend every lecture because he goes into detail every lecture. Only graded by 3 quizzes and final, but he uses a more lenient grading scale and curves grades.

NOOOO, don't do it if you're thinking about taking 1143. Very hard to understand and does not understand the concept of an organized outline for a "lecture", basically just meant talking about what he found interesting, trying to explain things along the way. Homework graded on accuracy based on things not yet gone over in class.

He is very hard to understand not only because of a slight accent, but because he is "too smart" to teach a bunch of undergraduate college students looking to fulfill a GE requirement. Would not recommend his class. His lectures put me to sleep more than once.

Comment:

This was my least favorite class/teacher that I have had at Ohio State. Anil is VERY smart-but too smart to teach. You almost have to go into this intro class with a lot of previous knowledge. Exams and quizzes are really hard (only grades are 4 quizzes midterm and a final). He curves grades and you don't need textbook. Attendance not required.
