He is just very blunt, no BS type of professor. All you have to do is hand in his papers on time, attend concerts, and take notes. Get a classmate's numberemail in case you have an emergency since the notes are basically the exam. Easy A , but NJCU has a bunch of lazy whiny students.

Very easy professor. I had him for a first year experience and all we did was write papers and watch movies. It is mandatory to attend shows as the papers are based off of them but other than that he was an easy A.

Prof. Lowenthal is super arrogant and genuinely believes he's God's gift to the world. However he tells you exactly what is on the midterm and final. His Jazz paper portion of the class is difficult for the fact he has no rubric to officially grade on and just writes a letter at the top with no explination. If you can handle arrogance your good

Easy class. Simple as that. He literally tells you what gonna be on the final, no midterm. Have to take his notes cause theres no book. (If you really want the book its Perceiving the Arts 3rd edition)You have to attend plays and concerts, its mandatory. HE HATES CELLPHONES!!

Took him for Modern Music. He has his mood swings but he is overall easy. There is no textbook for this class. There were 3 concerts we had to attend but they were on campus and some were the night of class. He gives the questions and answers to the exam. Easy grade with minimal effort.

This guy is out of his mind. However, he is a great professor and takes his class seriously. He has alot of passion for what he teaches and is helpful. Just come to class write down his notes and you should get an A. He gives the answers before hand. You must be an idiot if you fail his class. Lowenthal is not that bad. Go jets!

He pretty much gives you all the answers to the exam, you just need to study them. Overall, I am not a fan of what he sees as "modern music" but the class filled a required study. Overall, if you show up and do your work you will get a good grade. Had to attend 3 concerts and write 1 paper on each - a 5pg essay - 1 exam.

Do NOT like the guy's condescending attitude & treats the class like a 400 level course. But if you want a passing grade, go to each class, copy notes off the board exactly as they are, go to the 3 jazz critiques and do the 1 page paper on each, study what he tells you, and you'll pass with a great grade. Not hard at all. No homework. Take it.

Hell tell u to buy the text book but he gives u all of the notes and the midterm and final are easy. There are three papers you must do on jazz concerts you attend. Wow i cant believe that everthing posted about this professor is true....a true pain in the but..All I can say is be on time, don't miss a class(he gives a lot of notes)and pretend that you have the book(which we rarely used)because he gets mad if you don't purchases the book. He maybe a bit mean but the class is really easy. Gives out 2 exams(midterm & final) 4 papes(about Jazz concerts you go to). Gives good notes so take GOOD NOTES!! All the notes he gives are the answers to the exams. DON'T TALK WHEN HE TALKS! DON'T BE LATE or he will make you sit in front of the class.

He has a major attitude problem. If you are absent he reminds you in front of the whole class. When he collects the papers it's one at a time so the entire class knows if you don't have your paper. some students failed the midterm & the final and he gave them a D as a final grade. He is not so bad after all. just turn off the phones & do not talk!

Unfair ratings. He is very "mean & uptight" to those who disrespect him and his class. I never had a problem with him in fact he is an easy A as long as you follow directions, hand in papers, and take notes. His exams are easy multiple choice. I recommend him but remember one thing don't talk when he does it upsets him.
