Professor Boothe was an alright teacher from what I could tell. I took an online intro java coding class with him, and he was very clear with what he wanted. The class is very time consuming, so if you can't dedicate hours to the weekly readings and programs, then don't take the class.

Comment:
Boothe was great at clearly explaining the complexities of java programming, always encouraged questions, wanted feedback about how to improve the examples, and designed clear, logical PowerPoints. A lot of homework between classes (online book with examples and quizzes). No bad if you keep up with it but deadly if you fall behind.

Boothe is an excellent professor. His lectures are easy to understand, but never boring. I sent him emails on a few occasions and he replied quickly and clearly. His assignments are not easy, but not terribly bad. I would recommend him any day.

Tough grader on tests and is a bit extraneous when grading java coding. Has an ego and is not very understanding.

So far in the class, I feel like the lectures are somewhat decent in delivery online (it can be a bit much to watch at times but very informative), and the programs and labs you work on are great. However, his tests are extremely hard and unfair to work on. Despite getting 100s mostly on the hw and labs, the tests can bring you to ruin!

The best professor I've ever had. Organized, structured, clear, helpful. The classes are rigorous, but with his clarity, simplistic delivery of concepts, and openness, the material comes so much easier. This is how all classes should be. 10/10. There is typically regular homework, a midterm, and a final. He gives out the last years midterm/finals.

Super helpful. Tests are difficult, but he always provides a copy of the test from the last instance of the class. As long as you complete your homework assignments on time, you'll get a good grade in the class.

Assigns interesting projects that apply exactly what has been covered in class, weekly experiments to back up lectures. Tests aren't the easiest. One of the professors where if you flunk, because you're given all the tools needed.

I wish every professor could be Boothe. He is organized, presents a clear and helpful syllabus, then FOLLOWS IT. Do your work and you WILL learn the material. It's evident that he has thought through every aspect of how he teaches -- right down to using large chalk so he can be sure everyone can read what's on the board! Highly recommend.

Probably the best teacher I've had and I have attended classes at 4 different colleges. It is really obvious at how much effort this guy puts into his preparation for each lecture. Explanations are simple, precise, and go beyond the book.

Boothe is very knowledgable and I have learned more from his classes than any other. His tests are hard. They involve applying what you learn in class and not just regurgitating material. As long as you do the homework and programming assignments you can get by with doing bad on the tests. One of the best professors I have had at USM.

By far the best professor in Maine at least between UM (Orono) and USM. It is obvious that this is a man that not only knows his stuff, but wants to share it with you. He really teaches, but asks you to show him what you know. He doesn't hide behind his title when you don't get it, rather he tries to find a way to explain it to you. Whiners beware.

Boothe is a highly intelligent teacher, and teaches very effectively. He is also difficult, so be forewarned. He enjoys his subject and makes that very plain. He's definitely one of the computer science department's prize teachers. As regards 285, definitely take from him. Briggs is far less clear and makes for a poor learning experience.

Awesome teacher. Perfectly planned and executed classes. In class examples help a lot, willing to explain stuff again and clarify. Can be a bit cold towards you outside of class though.

Personally, I liked Booth. He did give hard tests and was a hard grader, but I liked the way he taught. I felt that he cared about his teaching and really tried to make you think. His lectures were great, he had a way of explaining things in a way that I could understand.
