He expects a lot from you. His classes are strictly lectures. You have to take 3 out of four tests and a final, and there is a take home test before each which is difficult unless you work with a group of people. His tests are very difficult, but if you study using the study guides (if he feels like making one) you have a better chance of doingwell

Easily my most hated professor at GU. He is a genius as far as the content goes, but it's not worth the struggle dealing with his B.S. I absolutely dreaded going to class at the end of the semester. His philosophy seems to be that the student is always wrong, and he is always right. I am truly embarrassed that he is a Gonzaga professor.

One of the hardest professors I've ever had. He's brilliant, and very interesting, but his tests are extremely long and thorough. If you aren't good with specifics, being humiliated, maps and note taking, DO NOT TAKE HIM!

Professor Dr. Carriker is easily one of the most brilliant professors I have ever had. He clearly knows his stuff and explains it clearly while trying to relate to the class as best as he can. He can also be very entertaining. His PPTS are essential for exams, which are tough because of his specificity; chapter MC tests from text are easy though.

Professor Carriker is a very nice guy, but you must strictly follow his directions on everything. 4 tests during the semester and the final. Only homework is studying and take-home chapter tests. Chapter tests are the only thing the book is used for. Study A LOT for exams and you'll be okay. Make sure you follow directions. Ask him for help, too.

I would never ever recommend this man. He doesn't care about his students and just likes to hear himself talk. His tests are hard and he publicly humiliates those who do poorly. If you must take him like I did be sure to get on his good side early. Don't bother asking for help during office hours because even if he is around he won't help you.

This professor is looking to prey on freshman and give students a more difficult time than necessary. His class requires more hours of work than any other freshman class of mine and I am highly considering withdrawing. If you have the choice, choose anyone else.

NICEST GUY EVER!! really passionate, super knowledgable. really cares about his students success! 2 easy papers, 3 tests and a final with monthly hw packets straight from the book. tests revolve around maps but tells you exactly what you need to know! one of my fav classes and i'm not a history major! totally recommend!!

Do not eat or fall asleep in his class or you will be his victim forever. He is a tough tester, so make sure you know your stuff! Always be there because all his tests are on the lecture notes. Memorize the maps like crazy. If you do not do well on an exam, he makes sure you know you didnt do well on it. He has been my worst experience so far at GU

This guy definitely has his own distinct style. If you think he's a patriarchal hard@$$ during the first two weeks, drop the class. Dr. Carriker gives some of the most work-intensive tests I've ever seen. He also provides a study guide but the tests take exponentially more time to study for than any other class. For some people, I'd recommend it.

This teacher is absolutely the worst one I have ever had. If your learning style does not mesh with his teaching styles you're screwed. He has the most unrealistic expectations Ever and harshly grades anything below his standards. I would look at stuff in class and be amazed at how good it was only to find he gave it a C. NEVER TAKE THIS TEACHER!!!

Will never take again. The rudest teacher. Should be fired. Not saying this b/c I got a bad grade, I got an A. I am a history major and would refuse to ever take one of his classes again. I am a senior now and he is the worst teacher I've had at Gonzaga.

Up to the minute and frazzled. The easiest online course I've ever signed up for . . . . Yet, the most content of any. We know the drill and the drill is on the shelf. If you scope out the material you'll find yourself rewarded. No Doubt. To tell the truth the larger lessons I learned in his class will serve me as I continue to propel myself.

This was one of the WORST professors I have ever had. He made me feel horrible about myself, and cares nothing about his students. I felt like he WANTED me to fail. Impossible tests, boring lectures. This teacher made me HATE history and I have always loved it! I would NEVER take this professor ever again!!

If you like history or are good at it, you'll do fine in this class. If history isn't your thing, then you'll probably struggle. He's really into maps on tests so keep that in mind if you're thinking about taking his class. He's pretty fair and sometimes even gave extra points on tests and quizzes for no real reason except that he felt like it.

Carriker shouldn't even be considered a teacher. He doesn't teach anything - I didn't learn a single useful thing. Elementary ed students are required to take this class - so unfortunate. I am a history major/ed major and this teacher ruined NW American history for me. I HATE this teacher. AVOID. AVOID. AVOID. he is such an patriarchal idiot.

Absolutely terrible teacher. I was not out for an easy grade at all but Carriker made my life hell for a period of time. His expectations are ridiculous, and his test impossible. I think the idea of having maps is a great one, but his tests are really long an he expects SO much out of you. Impossible expectations, terrible teacher, NEVER TAKE HIM!!

This is such an interesting class! Not dry info and dates as much as natural history, geology and local regional history. He has a lot of passion and enthusiasm for everything he teaches-really knows his stuff. You will learn quite a bit!
