Comment:
If you are interested in American cinema, stay away from this man at all cost. He has a very specific point of view that cannot be questioned by others. If you challenge his point of view, you will be targeted on every single minor grammartical error on your essay just to make you fail the course. Big waste of time dealing with this guy

IF YOU ARE READING THIS: DON NOT TAKE THIS GUY'S CLASS! HE TARGETS STUDENTS THAT DISAGREE WITH HIM, AND MAKES SURE THAT THEY FAIL. I PLAN ON REPORTING HIM TO HIS DEPARTMENT HEAD. WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD AT UMASS. HANDS DOWN.

If you think this guy will be easier in an online course, you're wrong. Don't take him. He doesn't get that the reason people take online courses is because they have schedules that are a little inflexible. He is a very harsh grader. I took the pass/fail option, and we are only in week 3. He gave me two C's so far. I do not get C's. I get A+'s

I am sure that Professor Goff meant well, but his class was pretty terrible. He teaches his own opinions about films and, if you cannot regurgitate them exactly, he gives you a bad grade. There is no critical thinking allowed.

Worst teacher I ever had in my life. Completely unfair, all he does is just spit his communist propaganda out instead of following any sort of curriculum, and if you don't buy into it you fail.

Summer session, moderately difficult. Two papers, two written tests. Just show up, take notes, try on the papers and be sure to study the material for the exams and you'll be ok. Several people failed the exams, but that is because they were hardly ever in class and didn't take notes. A bit had to follow sometimes during lectures, but still ok.

Terrible. Awful. Horrible. Boring. Uninformed. Tough. These defined professor Goff. He gave us 2 minutes to do our evaluations (very shady). He teaches one course which meets 3 hours per week, only he teaches for a little over 3 hours of it! Rarely a break; short exams; do NOT take this professor.

He is by far the worst professor I have ever had, at any college, at any time. He does not know the material, cannot explain anything, and you cannot rely on what he tells you to study. He should not be teaching this class - or any class, for that matter. Do not take this class with this professor.

there's a reason no one signed up for his class this fall... he's not just a demanding teacher. demanding i can handle. he's totally unreasonable and unclear when it comes to grading. HIS interpretation is the ONLY interpretation. he very nearly destroyed my love of film and filmmaking. don't take his course.

Difficult to deal with. Set up students to fail. For ex. says papers should be 5 pages no outside sources based on students interpretation. However in reality, to achieve his unrealistic standards, one must consult many sources and Goff himself to make clear if you are regurgatating his opinion back to him correctly! Very condescending and critical

When it comes to film, this guy knows as much as anyone. Unlike most professors, who provide a few scenes and nothing more, this guy tediously and meticulously shows at least 10 different film clips per class. Why? To make the class as interesting as possible. To that end and more, he succeeds.

Very rude, treats students like kids, if your analysis of film is not the same as his own; you're wrong!
