I took this class 15 years ago and am now a professor myself. I STILL tell stories about how he taught because it was fantastic. He won't hold your hand, but he'll make you learn.

He gets a pretty bad rap. He was an extremely enthusiastic professor with a love for Economics. He was very easy to understand as a professor and extremely knowledgeable about his field.

I HATE this guy, he went so far as to make fun of my name because I drew something wrong. That was low. Tells people to leave egos out of the room yet can't leave his own. Also likes to yell at ppl if they get anything wrong to make them feel stupid. How is this guy working at oberlin? OC profs are usually nice and helpful not like this jerk.

Funny in a spacy, inappropriate, and narcissistic way. His lectures are terribly complicated, but important for exams. Little application. Doesn't care about his students, nor does he show any interest in their success.

I'm graduating in May, and still weep over the course I took with him (fall, freshman year). I went to class, read the book, went to tutoring, and still got a C-. In HS, I got a silver medal in a statewide economics competition, so I'm not a total dunce. His answer to everything: "Google it!"

Piron is very condescending and very in-your-face about everything. He doesn't care about your feelings. That being said, he knows what he's talking about and presents the material very clearly. Read the book and pay attention in class and you'll be fine.

Comment:
Prof. Piron is tough and challenged me to think. He doesn't spoonfeed and doesn't take crap from people. He is an engaging lecturer BUT doesn't seem very interested in teaching. Spends a lot of time going on about other things. Its sad that he could be such a good teacher but didn't seem to like teaching. And his textbook choice is terrible.

Undoubtedly the worst professor I have had at Oberlin. Professor Piron is clearly a smart man, and was supposedly a child prodigy, but remains selfish, mean and small. He is not allowed to grade his own tests, because of numerous charges of gender bias.

People accuse him of being unfairly tough, but he is not. He clearly lays out in lectures what is important, and what he wants back from students. All his intro class takes is actually reading the book, listening to lectures - especially to key points he raises multiple times and an open mind.

Very hard and extremely confusing. little to no help for students having trouble. very cold and unsympathetic. The notes he left on my final exam almost made me cry! Stay away from this guy.

I think the problem people have with him is that he's not an enabler,he's not going to hold your hand through it and yeah, he's kind of an ****, but he knows his**** which is more than I can say about other "nicer" profs.
