Professor Young is very good at what he does. He is a good and entertaining lecturer, but his test are hard. You absolutely can get a good grade in his class but you will need to know your stuff. The homework is optional but certainly help with the test.

This class really rekindled my interest in mathematics. Professor Young is an absolute joy, and I look forward to every class. While I can see why someone not as comfortable with the material would complain about the level of difficulty, I've found him to be very approachable and helpful during office hours whenever I've needed help with anything.

Prof Young has a real passion for math. His tests are hard and 4 of them determine your entire grade, but if you show up and pay attention you'll come away from the class with a thorough understanding of calc. He's also hilarious but can get very intense

Comment:
Harsh professor and a stubborn one. A lot of homework. And Homework does not count for your grade. (the four exams is all that count) They are meant to be "practice," according to him. Each day homework has at least 10 questions, meaning you have to spend 1 hour to finish all the homework. Even you do that, you can still fail his tricky exams.

Professor Young is the most interesting math professor I've ever had, but also the most difficult as well. He gives optional homework which is not graded but not doing it will result in failure. His lectures are difficult to understand and don't teach everything in the textbook. Your grade is from 4 difficult exams ONLY. USE OFFICE HOURS!

Comment:
Your grade is based entirely on 4 very short and difficult exams, so it's easy to get Cs even if you thoroughly understand the course material. Many enjoy his lectures, but they're difficult to really understand and don't really tie into the exams. I advise against taking his class if you need a B or higher.

Comment:
Passionate and Engaging. However, the homework load is extremely heavy (2-3 hours of work a night) but no credit received. Many students who completed the homework and prepared well for tests still but struggled a great deal. Tests are EXTREMELY difficult (only 4 total tests). Many students getting a C or below, some failing. Would NOT recommend.

Bob Young lectures like a freight train. He is the most powerful math lecturer I've ever had the pleasure to hear (and I've heard many). He sometimes stumbles over students' questions in class (freight train, don't get him off track). Though I once saw him take a question home and come back with a lecture on it the following week.

Young is the most incredible lecturer I have ever seen. He has a contagious child-like passion for math. He doesnt grade the homework, but you MUST keep up with it or you will be screwed. Very tough tests, and he grades harshly. If you are willing to put in the effort, you will learn a ton.

For Prof. Young, the classroom's a stage, and every class is a performance. He's distilled the material down to its essence, teaches it well (from memory, without missing a beat), and by the end of the course I knew the material intuitively. For him math is poetry, and he practically bursts with enthusiasm to share this vision.

He gives really clear lecture among 2/3 of the course, but the last part, I have to say, seems to be really disoriented.Besides, he gives difficult hw problems which I think he should start from the easy one and then goes deep.Anyway,I think I learnt a lot from the course, but this course is not Mr.Young's best field.

I strongly advise against taking a class with him. He assigns 3x as much hw as any other class, but doesn't collect or grade it. His exams, which your entire grade is compromised of, are impossible. I know multiple brilliant people who have to retake this class now. His lectures are inspired, but I don't even know what I learned.

I may be the only international student in Professor Young's class this semester. He gave us difficult problems in class but didn't make his test that difficult in that way.Lots of people feel his course hard that's simply because they don't work hard. Great Professor! And very reasonable test!

Bob Young gives a warning at the beginning of every semester: "a NY tourist once asked: how do you get to carnegie hall? Practice, practice, practice." Many people find that his class is difficult because they don't. If you do, you will find his lectures only supplement your understanding of the material. Wonderful, genius, and inspirational.

He is contagiously passionate! Without question the best Math professor I've ever had. He is an artist. You'll be at the edge of your seat the whole time. He is very tricky though. Some people have a very hard time catching his tricks and I can see why he's a very hard teacher. If you really pay attention, you'll do fine. He wants you to succeed.

Yeah, his exams are preety difficult but if you are able to get the trick part, then you can easily do the tests. I am a int'l freshman, and had to manage a whole lot of things to adjust to american education. still, i got A. He is an amazing teacher. Listen to every word he says in class.

Lectures are great but his tests are extremely HARD. You can understand the concepts of calculus and do all the homework problems but still fail his tests. Either consider taking his class P/NP or take it with another professor.
