Prof Garvin is the only professor so far who has made me cry. I literally left her office and cried for as long as I could until my next class.

Such a great, passionate, inspiring, charming person and very understanding of learning style differences and the challenges that sciences/math present. She wants students to understand and is very helpful. Engaging lectures. Tests were difficult.

She's the best professor I've had at Oberlin so far. This class was really fun and made me decide to change my major. She really cares about students and is always eager to help more if she can. She is reasonable and encourages students to talk about missed questions on exams, and if you explain it well enough, she'll often give points back.

In BIOL 102, much better than Laushman. Wasn't as interested in the material she presented in the second module compared to what Laushman taught in the first module, but I learned a lot more and the lectures were more clear.

She is very nice and enthusiastic! Do NOT take this class, though, unless you have absolutely no prior knowledge about the basics of ecology, or be prepared to be bored to death. Most of the assignments are extremely badly-conceived, and the class is very frustrating.

Great prof. Great person. Mary Garvin is warm, gentle, and very approachable (even to rude&difficult students who deserve less). Lectures and field trips (to Maine!)rock. Take all her classes, you'll learn lots.

Great lecturer but I feel like she's really only interested in either her honors students or students whom she likes. Awkward, difficult to talk to and dismissive if you aren't on her level of Biological appreciation. Another problem is she seems a bit passive agressive about things to certain students. But good teacher and you'll learn alot

Despite my interest in the subject, this class kicked my ass (not quite so much as 118) and I barely passed. I think Mary Garvin is the reason I passed. She was very helpful and actually cared about how I was doing in the class, despite the like 100 other students there were in the class.
