Very funny and friendly professor, but his exams tend to be very hard. Also he takes attendance at the end of each and every class.

Nice professor with a great sense of humor--except when he is annoyed and grumpy. Attendance is mandatory and attendance sheet is circulated at the end of each class. He hands out lecture outlines in class, even though they are also posted on Carmen. The required textbook is however too long, uninformative and boring.

One of the harder professors I've had and mostly because of the confusion of what he wants more so than the actual content of the class. Exams are graded very subjectively with little explanation as to why. I suggest preparing yourself before the lecture and making an outline of the section for that day b/c lectures are very disorganized.

I liked this class a lot, even though I knew very little about Russian politics before I took it. The teacher was very funny, easy going and helpful. However, attendance was mandatory and regularly taken. And the assigned book was real awful.

A very interesting class. Attend lectures regularly and study hard for the exams and you will do well in this class. But if you don't or if you are lazy or dumb, you will be very disappointed at the end.

Nothing's more disappointing than being excited for a class and then having the professor ruin the entire thing for you. Extremely biased, very hard on students with opposing views. The textbook is not only old but just as biased and factually wrong as he is. Exams are a joke-it would have been better to just read the book. Useless and incompetent.

Attendance is mandatory and he expects ridiculously rigid and detailed answers when it comes to the essays (Class Avg : C-). he can be helpful and sincere, depending on his mood...but don't expect an easy A out of this course unless you're willing to attend every class and squint your eyes to figure out his handwriting on the board.

Watch out- takes attendance every class even though it often takes a long time. If you can pay attention for long enough you may find that he has a decent sense of humor, though he is often very hard to understand and hard to hear-- lots of people found his class hard to sit through.

I liked Dr. Rossen and enjoyed the class. It would help a lot if he gave us his class outline online instead of writing it on the board each class. Then we could concentrate on what he was saying instead of frantically writing.

He is extremely difficult for a intro course. but, if you go to class and take good notes you will do fine. He loves detail and correct information. Indeed, he is a hard teacher but his essays will make you learn the material. Good teacher, hard to understand at times...and pretty funny if you are listening.

Attendance is mandatory and taken at the end so you have to stay all class. His study guides tell you verbatim what will be on the exam, but you have to do A LOT of extra work/preparing since you don't know which questions he'll pick. Overall, an easy class

One of the worst professors I have had. Hard to understand, quiet, extremely boring, and sometimes just factually wrong. When he wasn't putting us to sleep in class, he was asking us to tell him what the really old and outdated book said or showing ancient horrible movies that went on forever. He seems nice and friendly but is boring and clueless.

He's a Complete Joke of a Professor. The study guides for exams are just the headings from the textbook. Extremely one sided and refuses to teach the other perspective. Will isolate students who view politics differently. Basically gives you 15 minutes of information in 2 hours. Overall, the worst professor I've ever seen in my 3 years at OSU.

He expects a lot of detail and writing on the exams. It is basically like writing 20 essay questions in two hours. However, it is possible to do well if you study the study guide and show up for class (and try not to sleep). Overall, he is very funny and helpful, however sometimes he is not very clear on what he expects.

Very helpful..Expects to write a lot in the exams. He gives out study sheet which basically covers most of the topics in the book. He uses letter grades instead of numerical. Sometimes his voice can make you sleep:) Actually there were people who slept in class :) Interesting class. Overall, study hard for the exam, he is not an easy grader.

Dr. Vassilev is cordial but hard to like. The accent didn't bother me but was incredibly suprised at how detailed the tests were for a 200 level class. Lectures were extremely dry with a lot of supplemental old 'movies'. Worst part is the book, it's outdated and extremely hard to read and digest clearly. In grading, shows a clear bias of thinking
