An amazing teacher and mentor. One could not have had a better teacher. He challenged you, made you work, made you learn, made you laugh. I have a million wonderful Dr. Bell experiences and now that he is gone no one will need this rating but just wanted to have one last time to say that he was brilliant and changed my life

Dr. Bell changed lives. Brilliant, encyclopedic, accessible if you needed him, his classes appealed to people driven to learn. You got out what you put in. Looking back on all of the courses, field studies & labs, he is by far the professor with the most profound impact on my life. Sadly, lifetimes what they are, the lectures are over. Miss you DB

Learning Dr. Bell has finally retired saddens me. He is the most brilliant individual I have had the pleasure of ever knowing. I took as many classes (6) as possible sheerly for the pleasure of learning everything he had to offer. His bone dry humor is fantastic. Thank you, Dr. Bell, for your decades of service. 1st BS Bio-Eco. Sci. Alumna '09

One of the all time great professors! His encyclopedic knowledge is there for the tapping. If you are at all interested in learning, take notes, ask questions, be involved. Tests are from the class lectures including diagrams etc. An amazing experience that will stay with you forever.

In light of his retirement, a review is rather moot, but in case he comes back, here it is. You have to attend class, no ifs, ands, or buts. His tests are taken directly from lecture, and both are detailed and extensive. He does know his stuff though; his entire lecture was from memory. He's tough, but overall a pretty good professor.

Professor Bell is a very nice old man. However his teaching style is extremely unhelpful. He sits in a chair and lectures the entire time. While lecturing he will stop talking to breathe which takes like 5 minutes, so most of the time everybody's just waiting for him to say something. Tests don't make sense and labs are irrelevant to the lectures.

Brilliant Man. He know s everything taught by heart. Tests are hard is his class so make sure to attend, pay close attention, and everything is important. Even though the class was hard, I learned a lot during my time. He will offer extra credit, take advantage of all opportunities. Take photos of all drawings and even record the lecture!

Older guy; Not the quickest speaker. Seems to take 30min. to explain 1 topic. Doesn't seem he knows how to get to the point. Lectures will try your patience. Tests are pretty much rewriting every single thing he put on the board + everything he's said. I'd recommend finding a better professor if at all possible

everything he says in class will be on a test.. grades are an average of your test, that is all. On test, you basically have to regurgitate his lecture. There is no textbook so pay attention. Take advantage of all extra credit opportunities in lab (in bio lab and lecture are a combined grade)

Dr. Bell may not have been the easiest Prof. I ever had, but I respect him for that. I did not go to college for easy, I went to learn. There are few days that go by that I don't think of something Dr. Bell taught me. I wish I would have taken more of his classes.

I had several of Dr. Bell's classes in 1972-1974. This man is the best professor ever. He knows his subject and for those that love his subject he creates an unforgettable experience. IĆ¢€™m delighted to see that he is still making his contribution to the field of biology. Thank you Dr Bell

Highly intelligent and kind professor. Hard to stay awake in class--which is a must. He bases tests on EVERYTHINHG that's said/drawn in class. DON'T NEED TEXTBOOK. If you pay attention, and get to know him--you'll do fine.

Most intelligent man I have ever met. Has a photographic memory, so he will know who you are. Been teaching at Shepherd for 51 years so you have to respect him. Yes, his lectures are long and drawn out but they are worth tuning in to. Memorize everything he writes on the board and you'll have no problem.

You MUST take notes on everything from day 1 even the mythology. Get a study group, review, memorize. Tests are a hard EX: "Greenhouse Effect", with no question. Write what you know and only what you know. You usually won't loose points for things missing, just wrong answers. You will probably learn a lot. I liked the class, but it is hard.
