Hunt is easily one of the best studio professors in the writing program, but she doesn't feed you information or tell you "how to write." You discuss interesting works in class and discuss what makes them good. It is then your job to learn from that. If you're not a writing major or cant write she probably wont help you.

Comment:
Does not teach specific narrative tactics, ie what works and doesn't. Unfocused curriculum. Lack of interest in students as individuals. Discredits her praise by lauding bad writing as well as good writing. Lazy line edits. She is a good writer herself but not very helpful in making students better.

SUPER nice! I can't understand why there are so many negative comments...she has such interesting topics and discussions too! Admittedly I didn't learn more about WRITING than I already knew - it is only English 103 after all - but it's a fun class to be in.

Samantha Hunt is amazing. She's inspiring and innovative. She'll expose you to all types of new writing. I don't know about her creative writing course, but her Sophomore Studio is fabulous--definitely my favorite studio so far. She knows what she's talking about and she's encouraging. I became a much better writer by taking her class.

I did not enjoy her class. I think she is mean spirited and DEFinitely agree w/ other reivewers, that she is condecending. She seemed to be nice in the beginning, but she does not make you enjoy writing for its own sake, and it's hard to learn from her when she is so busy getting pissy about typical attendance stuff. SHe talks down to you a lot.

I feel like Prf. Hunt is a nice lady but i didn't learn much from her. And I agree with some other reviewres that she can be condecending. Overall the class wasn't worth the trouble, I wasn't inspired to write creatively which is the course title.

Comment:
There are those of us who understand the distinction between "their" and "they're" who believe Hunt is a miserable hyprocrit and a condescending wretch. I am one of them. She is very limited creatively, maintains a narrow scope of stylistic critique, and generally facilitates a negative atmosphere as the semester goes on.

Nice woman and fantastic writer, but I don't feel like I learned anything from her workshops. FYI: She'll bring in her journalist husband to speak to the class but refuses to admit they're married. Weird.

Maybe students who can't make the their/they're distinction shouldn't be making completely untrue statements about such an incredible professor. Sam Hunt has a very devout following, because she's excited about everything happening in the classroom, oh, and she's an amazing writer.

Seems nice at first, but is in fact condescending and sometimes outright rude and mean. Goes ape-sh%t over minor tardiness, always thinks you're lying to her (in the case of absences i.e. for REAL illnesses), will happily embarass you in front of the class for any of these reasons. Does not teach her own subject very well, then blames the students
